SCHOOL PROFILE
George Stevens Academy (GSA), established in 1803, is an independent high school on
the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast of the USA. The Academy is a caring educational
community that supports each student with a challenging, comprehensive academic
and experiential program. The school experience fosters the pursuit of knowledge,
inspires creativity, develops self-reliance, and prepares graduates for a purposeful life
in a changing world. GSA offers Honors and Advanced Placement courses for highly
motivated college-bound students. Honors courses are available for all core academic
subject areas during all four years of study.
FACILITIES
The school has four main buildings (with a total of 27 classrooms fully equipped with
Internet), the library has more than 8,000 kinds of research materials and other texts;
a computer center with 30 laptops and the MERI Center to study marine research data.
Sports facilitates include a stadium, soccer field, football field, tennis court, softball field,
hockey court, baseball court, ice hockey field, basketball court, and golf course.
SPORTS AND ARTS
GSA offers three seasons’ of interscholastic athletics including sailing, golf, soccer, and
track. GSA also offers an award-winning jazz program; the Jazz Band has won State
Championships for nine of the past ten years.
DORMITORIES AND STUDENT LIFE
GSA has a boys’ dormitory and a girls’ dormitory both situated in the middle of campus.
Both dormitories were recently renovated and have wireless internet connectivity, cable
television, a kitchen, laundry machines, and common rooms. Students share large double rooms. Each dormitory is staffed by a full time “dorm parent”.
