The Picture Program
The purpose of the Picture Program is to acquaint the Student’s
at St. Joseph School with a variety of prominent artists and styles
of art, and to teach them the terms they need to be able to evaluate
and appreciate works of art as they encounter the. Our presenters
for kindergarten through sixth grade are parent volunteers. The
students in seventh and eighth grade volunteer to present pictures
to their classmates. All of our volunteers are aided in their
research and preparation by another parent volunteer.
For our presentations, we use poster-sized reproductions from
different collections:
 Shorewood Collection prints (mounted on wood, brief
descriptions on back)
 Art in Action: Enrichment Program I (teacher’s manual
available in St. Joseph School Library)
 Art in Action: Enrichment Program II (teacher’s manual
available in St. Joseph School Library)
The prints are kept in the St. Joseph School Library and our local
public libraries. The following tables outline the picture
assignments for each grade level. Links are included for each
picture, but you may want to look for other sources to help
generate activities or discussions to have with the students.
