Meet our Resident of the
Month! Mary Morgan
Mary was born on August 1, 1922
to Guy and Florence Crosby in
Coudersport, Pennsylvania. Her
father was a farmer, and she grew
up with three brothers and a sister:
Robert, Foster, Herbert, and
Catherine. Mary’s grandparents
met on a boat when they were
both coming over to the United States. Her grandfather
was Irish, and her
grandmother was German. Mary grew up in
Williamsport, Pennsylvania where she stayed with her
aunt and uncle during the day. As a child she would
like to go to work with her uncle who was a game
warden. All of the neighborhood kids liked to play
baseball in the backyard and baseball fields. Mary
went to Williamsport grade school and graduated from
Williamsport High School.
After graduation, Mary enjoyed traveling and she
attended culinary school in New York, New York. Mary
met her husband Joe Morgan on an island near the
South Pacific where he was in the Navy. Mary and Joe
were married March 3 at the Episcopal Church in
Joplin, Missouri. They were married for about 20 years.
Joe worked at a hotel, and Mary stayed at home and
raised their three children. They had two sons, Keith of
Eau Claire and Karl of Alaska and a daughter Karen
Ann who has passed. Karen worked with
Congressmen in Washington D.C. As a family they
really enjoyed going up to Niagara Falls as it was only
40 miles away.
After they retired, Mary and Joe enjoyed fishing in the
river near their house and square-dancing together.
They traveled to Emporium to visit her grandparents,
and Mary has also been to Alaska and Canada. She
spent two weeks in Alaska with her son Karl. One of
Mary’s proudest achievements was when she got the
opportunity to work in the British West Indies. One day
she saw a big snake when she was working there, and
she also remembers all of the WILD monkeys running
around.
In January 2017, Mary moved to Dove HealthcareOrchard Hills Assisted Living. She said, “I like the
people here and the food is really good.”
Thank you Mary for sharing your story with us!
