Oreo worksheet
To use sensory words, you have to use your senses! Follow the questions and write down the words
that you would use to answer the questions. The slate is pretty wide open here, so you can go off on
any tangent as long as it starts first with an Oreo.
When you are done, you have the beginnings of your poem. Write, make sure we can read it, and turn it
in at the end of the class. NO LATE TURN INS! Turn it in even if it’s not finished.
1. Look at the cookie. The color – what else is this color? Is it rich, dark, warm, what? What about
the contrast between the dark and the light?
2. Hold it. What is the texture like? Does the pattern remind you of anything? Does it fit nicely
into your hand?
3. Smell it. Don’t eat it yet! Does it smell like anything else on earth? Does it remind you of
anything, any time, or anyone specific? Does it make your mouth water? (If you hate it, go
ahead and express that too!)
4. Take your first bite. What is the crunch like? What about the creamy filling? What does this
feel like? Find words other than good or bad. Close your eyes and imagine how you would
describe this taste to someone who has never had an Oreo.
5. Take the second bite. Has anything changed? Is it as good as the first bite or better?
6. How many bites does it take you to finish the cookie? Do you want more? Any other thoughts?
