7th Grade Math Unit 2 Final Project Name ______________________________________________ Date ______________________ Homeroom __________ Let’s Play! Design your own Algebra Game Your Unit 2 project is to design and create a board game or a card game where the players must simplify expressions or solve equations (or both) to win! Think about the board games and card games that you like to play. How can they be adapted to include expressions and equations? Here are some ideas, to get you thinking: Board Game: Players roll the dice, land on a space, and solve an equation on that space. A positive solution moves them forward that number of spaces, and a negative solution moves them backward. Card Game: Design a game like UNO or Go, Fish! Only in your game the players need to simplify or solve before they can make a match. “Got any 2𝑥 − 5’s?” A Maze Game: There is only one way out—and we must simplify or solve correctly to find it! To begin, think about the following: • What theme will you build your game around? • What is each player’s main goal or objective? How do they win? • How/when/where will you incorporate expressions and equations? Remember, your players must be SIMPLIFYING and SOLVING throughout the game. You can be as creative as you like, as long as you turn in the items on the checklist below with your final project. We will try out our games with our classmates on the day that they are due, so try to include everything necessary to play (if possible). Challenge yourself and your players! Try to include BOTH expressions and equations, if possible. Also, include parentheses, fractions, and decimals to spice things up for the players of your game. You must include the following: 1. Game Description 2. Instructions/Rules for Play 3. Game Board, Game Cards (or both) 4. Answer Key with at least 10 problems from your game solved correctly with work shown **Your project is due on Wednesday, January 6th, 2016** Grades will be based on the following point-‐values: Item Game Description clearly and thoroughly explains the game to potential players in a way that makes sense and intrigues and excites them. Instructions and Rules for Play provides the player with a specific and detailed explanation how to play the game, including all rules and procedures for play. Game Board/Game Cards are thoughtful, creative, and neat. Game includes simplifying expressions and/or solving equations as the players’ primary activity. Time spent on task is evident. Answer Key includes at least 10 problems from the game. All work is shown and solutions are accurate. Points _____ / 10 _____ / 20 _____ / 50 _____ / 20 Total Points/Grade: _____ / 100
