For cats with bib, paws and tummy (minimal white, to include white spotting) the code is 09. For cats with larger amounts of white (up to around 50%) the code is 03. (for most purposes, these two codes will cover all cats) For cats that exhibit a very large amount of white, above 50%, where colour is present as minimal patches, the code 02 is used, described as harlequin in other registries. For cats that only show colour around the ears and tail, the code for van should be used, 01. As an example: Black = MCO n. Black and white (minimal white) = MCO n 09 Red Classic Tabby = MCO d 22 Red Classic Tabby and high white = MCO d 03 22 Blue Smoke = MCO as but Blue Smoke and White van pattern = MCO as 01 *NB – 1. It should be remembered that these are REGISTRATION codes only. Breeders should check the allowable amount of white in cats for the show bench, by consulting the breed standard. For example, whilst a cat with white spotting is able to be registered with the code 09, where the white is LESS than the accepted showable minimum (white on all four paws, bib and tummy) it will not be accepted as meeting the standard for show. Similarly, van patterned maine coons are not accepted by GCCF for showing, and harlequins will need to have a fully coloured tail, and sufficient colour to show pattern on the body, which may not be the case. *NB – 2. Other tabby patterns are TICKED – which is denoted with the use of 25 instead of 22 or 23 or SPOTTED which is 24. Neither are accepted for showing in GCCF, but it allows for them to be tracked in pedigrees. *NB – 3. The numbers for eye colours can also be used for high white cats, or cats who show unusual eye colours, which although not showable under GCCF (odd eyes occasionally do occur, for example, in cats other than solid whites) it still allows for these traits to be followed in pedigrees etc.
