USHUAIA TOWN AND PIER INFORMATION Located at 54º49’S, 68º17’W, the port of Ushuaia has been chosen by many tour operators as a major gateway to Antarctica. The pier itself is 514 metres long (1713 feet) and 28 metres (93 feet) wide and is operational on both sides at low and high tide. The depth at port allows large ships and icebreakers to come alongside the pier. Directions to your ship in Ushuaia: There are no ground transfers provided in Ushuaia, so you must find your own way to the cruise pier. We recommend that you arrive a day earlier in Ushuaia to have some additional time in case of flight delays and lost luggage on the day of arrival. This will also be a good opportunity for you to hop around the town itself. Please note that the vessel will sail at its specified time and will not be able to wait for missing passengers or luggage. There is only one cruise pier in Ushuaia located in the main port on Maipu Street. The entrance to the pier is opposite of Lasserre street, the Government building and the Hotel Albatros. Passengers must be able to show their Boarding Pass, otherwise access can be denied by port authorities. It is only a few minutes from the airport. A taxi should cost approximately US $5.00. Transfers in Buenos Aires: If transferring directly from Ezeiza (EZE) International airport to Aeroparque Jorge Newbery city airport (AEP), book the official taxi from ‘Manual Tienda Leon’ or Transfer Express’. Right after customs there is a counter from ‘Manuel Tienda Leon’ and ‘Transfer Express’ and payment can be made there. These taxis are safe. Do not take a taxi from one of the many drivers offering taxis verbally. Only take a taxi after booking and paying at the desk. The city is a wonderful marriage of both the south’s roughneck reputation and the urban sprawl which has emerged in recent years. Punta Arenas is one of just two free ports in Chile and enjoys access to Argentina, Torres del Paine and Tierra del Fuego. This makes the city a great vantage point for travelers heading elsewhere and has given the city great exposure. The main economic activity in this city is mining, specifically petrol, coal and natural gas. Arturo Prat Pier The main terminal is Arturo Pratt Pier, located five blocks away of the main square (where down town is). It is a penetration dock over pilot with 18 meters wide and 373 meters of length perpendicular to the coast and it has 4.4 hectares of support fields reclaimed from the sea. Now, this Port has a modern Passenger Room, which has been placed with a privileged view to the Estrecho de Magallanes and to the port facilities. In it, several services are offered associated to the tourism and it has basic services and a proper, nice and comfortable space.
