CURRICULUM OUTLINE
Robin Reading Challenge - To help encourage the children with regular
reading we have a reading challenge set out on our class window. Every
time the children are heard read individually either at home or at school
they can progress along the dinosaur trail. When they reach a landmark
point they earn a special sticker and once they reach Jurassic Park they
earn themselves a little model dinosaur! Please could you help us to
facilitate their journeys by signing their reading record books when you
have heard them read at home!
Finally, just a few reminders:
Show and Tell - this where we allow the children to bring in a toy or an
item of interest that they would like to share with the other children.
Please could we ask that Show and Tell only comes into school on a
Friday
Please wash and return water bottles every Monday.
Please read the class noticeboards regularly to keep up to date and
continue to check parent mail weekly – please make sure it is not going
to your spam box! Lots of important up to date information for the
following week is found there. These are also on display in our
classrooms and copies are available from the office.
Please also note that all weekly letters are available to read on the school
website www.lavant.w-sussex.sch.uk
Please continue to keep us informed if someone else is collecting your
child from school.
Please ensure all clothes are clearly named.
Thank you for all your support

Art
The Year 1 children will be looking at colour, pattern and shape as they
develop observational drawing skills and printing techniques representing
aspects of dinosaurs and decorating our Sukkah.
In Year 2 the children will be exploring colour-mixing, particularly
focussing on tints and shades. They will be looking at the work of the
artist Wassily Kandinsky and create their own dinosaur pictures in this
style.
Computing
In computing the children will be searching for dinosaur pictures on the
Internet. They will learn the skills of copying, pasting and resizing
pictures. They will think about different ways of sorting and create their
own dinosaur fact page.
History/Geography
We will be finding out about when dinosaurs lived. We will find out the

unique, beginning to recognise and consider strategies for dealing with
a variety of emotions.
Religious Education
In RE this half term the children will be finding out about how Christians
celebrate harvest and looking at some aspects of Judaism; how they
celebrate Shabbat and Sukkot, how they show they are thankful at
Harvest time and also about Moses as a leader. Next half term the
children will be looking at various celebrations/festivals across different
religions such as Divali, Christmas and Hanukkah.

may be liable to change due to other events. They will all need plimsolls
or trainers, shorts and T shirt and possibly a track suit for the colder
weather. Please may we remind you that if your child has their ears
pierced, that earrings should either be removed for that session or
covered with micro pore tape.
This term the children will be developing a dance based on our topic
about Dinosaurs which we are hoping to share with you in our Key
Stage assembly. In games lessons we will be exploring team games
using throwing and kicking skills. After half term the children will have
the opportunity to work with South Coast Sports.
