SarahPottle'sdiariesspanthe years1860-I 886.Blanche Leyden'sdiariesspanthe years1897-1908. Thesediariesmay proveusefulin researchinto Wornen'sRights:Maurice Leydcndoesmentionthc 1872vote,and SusanB. Anthony'ssubsequent trial, in his 1872and 1873diaries.And, asidefrom that,MargaretLeydenis a prominentfigurein both her husband'sand aunt'sdiaries.Thereis, ofcourse, potentialfor otherresearch within this collection.Althoughthe two main diaristswerenot of the samenuclear family, thcy were closelyrelatedand the diariesmay afford a close, gendered, dual perspective of Rochester'supper-middleclassduringthe latterhalf of the nineteenth century. This is especiallytrue in light of the fact that for ten of the fifteen yearsbetween 1871and 1885therearediariesfrom both MauriceLeydenand SarahPottle.
