We are learning to change an improper fraction into a mixed number. 5/4 Improper Fraction =1¼ Mixed Number I will know that I have learnt because I will: Divide the numerator (top part of fraction) by the denominator (bottom part of fraction) Write the quotient as the whole number and the remainder as the numerator. The denominator remains the same. Eg 17 /4 17 ÷ 4 = 4r1 The quotient, 4, is the whole number. The remainder, 1, is the numerator. The denominator remains 4. 17 /4 = 41/4 Extension: Create your own improper fraction and change it into a mixed number.
