Construction on the tower was begun in 1173.
The tower begin to sink during construction, and
work was halted many times. Each time the
design was modified, and construction was
finally completed in 1370, nearly 200 years later!
The Leaning Tower of Pisa, whose walls and
corridors are made of white marble, was a
tremendously tall skyscraper for its day.
