April 2017 Our Heart to Heart gatherings for our widows meets on the last Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. at the home of Jean Kendrick for a time of fellowship as they share their hearts and seek God’s heart. Parking is limited, so participants have the option to meet at the church at 1:45 p.m. to carpool. The next gathering is scheduled for April 27. Ministerial Staff A Monthly Publication of Mats for the Homeless: The Women’s Ministry has joined Sue Harris in providing plastic bags and crocheting the bags into mats for the homeless. It takes 752 bags to make just one mat, so we encourage our members to recycle by donating their plastic grocery bags for this cause. Denman Ave. Lufkin, TX 75901 Return Service Requested Mary Magdalene Portrayal: Virginia Haynes, organist and Leader of Women’s Ministry at First Baptist Church in Huntsville, wants to share Jesus’ great healing in the life of Mary Magdalene. Join us for her presentation on Thursday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. It is not her intention to add to or take away from the scriptures, but to testify of what Christ can do for anyone that needs forgiveness, healing and/or yearns for a close relationship with Jesus Christ. Please sign up in the foyer and plan to bring a salad to the event. We are preparing for a week of special services and activities in the week leading up to Easter. Come and help us remember and celebrate the death and resurrection or our Savior. Palm Sunday: As we conclude our series on “Life After Life” and begin our Holy Week emphasis, we invite you to a special musical presentation by DABC’s adult choir and orchestra called “Heaven” on Sunday, April 9 at 6:00 p.m. Near the end of this program, we will have a slide show portraying church and family members who are already in heaven. If you have a picture of a loved one that you want portrayed in this segment, please get it to the church office no later than Wednesday, April 5. Messiah in the Passover: Dr. Gil Lain will lead us as we share together in a Jewish Passover on Thursday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. On the night before Good Friday, Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper. We will be observing this ordinance as well. There is no cost for this activity, but you do need to get a ticket for yourself and those coming with you. Why? To make sure you have a place. We can only seat 250 participants. If you have children or youth in your home, we encourage you to bring them to this special service. We will provide childcare for children from bed babies through kindergarten. Please sign up and pick up a ticket in the mall area Sunday or at the church office during the week. Good Friday Service: Join us as we remember the cross and worship our Lord Jesus together at noon on Good Friday, April 14 in the worship center. CELEBRATE THE RESURRECTION WITH US ON EASTER SUNDAY, APRIL 16 Sunday School and morning worship as usual. No evening service or activities that day. DENMAN WORK DAY Saturday, April 8 Beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Building & Grounds Committee is sponsoring a work day. Please sign up in the foyer on Sunday to volunteer for specific tasks. Right now, the planned projects include the following: (1) Paint parking stripes in the parking lot, (2) Paint handrails, (3) Clean up our retention pond and dead trees behind the bus barn, (4) Replace water damaged ceiling tiles and fix lights in the foyer, (5) Clean carpet in the sanctuary, (6) Clean A/C vents in the sanctuary, (7) Repair roof leak over the preschool area.
