MAUNDY THURSDAY April 13, 2017 • 7:00 p.m. • Sanctuary Sunday, April 9th, is Palm Sunday. This is the beginning of Holy Week. The Thursday of that week, April 13th, is Maundy Thursday. At 7:00 pm that evening, we will again hold a service of Holy Communion and Tenebrae. With Holy Communion we will remember the institution of this sacrament by our Lord at the Last Supper he shared with his disciples on that first Maundy Thursday. In the Tenebrae (Service of Darkness) portion of that evening we will remember our Lord’s agony in the Garden, his arrest, trial, scourging and finally his crucifixion. AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE May 12, 2017 6:00 p.m.—12:00 a.m. • JP Cain Stadium Hartselle First will be having a Relay for Life Team this year! I enjoy watching the ABC Sunday morning political talk show “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” (though I must admit that George is not there at least half the time). But watching that talk show or any number of others, I get so furious when a politician or a politician’s representative is asked a question he or she talks a great deal, but never answers the question that was asked. Even if the person is asked a simple “Yes” or “No” question, the answer given is anything but “Yes” or “No.” Talk is often very, very cheap. Jesus felt the same way about talk that was not backed up by action. One time he said something that should give all of us pause. In Matthew 7: 21 Jesus is recorded as saying, Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Jesus reminded the people then what he would remind you and me today; that the true test of our relationship with him is not finally about what we say, but rather about what we do. To be a Christian is not just to call Jesus “Lord” and “Savior”. The trust test of a Christian is whether or not he or she lives in obedience to God’s will. This Sunday at CrossTies and 11:00 we will be looking at that verse from Matthew. I invite you to one of those services. But whatever service you attend (and since this weekend marks the beginning of Spring Break even if you are not in worship here) I encourage you to reflect prayerfully and seriously on those words of the One we call Lord. God bless you always! THANK YOU Our church has again received a letter of appreciation from Scott Selman, the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of our North Alabama Annual Conference. The letter comes to express Scott’s and the annual conference’s appreciation to this church for paying 100% of our district, conference and General Church askings. We receive such a letter every year because every year this church remains faithful in our support of the ministry of The United Methodist Church beyond our local congregation. Thank you for continuing this great and vitally important tradition. THE CREED Beginning Wednesday, April 5, 2017 • 6:30 p.m. • Room 208 If you regularly attend one of our traditional services, or you have visited one, you have probably been invited to recite an "affirmation of faith" or "The Apostles' Creed." You may have found yourself wondering: "Why are we doing this?", "Why are we talking about the catholic Church", "Is this really what I believe?" During the month of April we will attempt to answer those questions and more. Our youth minister Toby Chastain will be leading a 4week series during WNA that will dive into the history, theology, and practice of reciting our creed. We hope you will join us!
