Monica Million Candidate for NENA 2nd Vice President I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give you a taste of things to come if elected. My name is Monica Million, and I am a candidate for NENA 2 nd Vice President. Currently, I serve on the NENA Executive Board as Western Region Director and am the Operations Manager for the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center, in Grand Junction, Colorado. My 9-1-1 career began in 2001, when I started at the GJRCC as a telecommunicator. In 2004, I advanced to supervisor, then promoted to Operations Manager in 2010. Other roles that I serve throughout the state include Immediate Past President of the APCO/NENA Colorado Chapter, Chair of the Public Utilities Commission 9-1-1 Advisory Taskforce, and the Colorado 9-1-1 Resource Center’s Board of Directors. Working with the Executive Board during the past year, I’ve watched the Western Region grow into the 2nd largest region in the country. I have attended chapter business meetings and conferences throughout numerous states, in an effort to help those at the local level bring education, information and opportunity to their memberships. I also continue to share the ENP Study Group recordings to members at a national level, which has resulted in successful testing throughout multiple regions. Over the last few years, I have grown increasingly passionate about wellness in our profession, specifically the topic of Vicarious Trauma. I’ve had the opportunity to speak at state, regional and national conferences, and also contributed an article to ‘The Call’, about this subject. It is important that we raise awareness of this occupational hazard, as the expectation level of this profession continues to rise. In regards to succession planning, at my own PSAP, I created a mentor program to help telecommunicators prepare for advancement in their career. While participating in our chapter leadership, I have carried on my personal philosophy in succession planning to ensure our chapter continues to grow and succeed beyond my term. I have dedicated my career to promoting knowledge, well-being and progress within our profession. As technology and consumer expectations continue to change our landscape, it is crucial we have people who come from the PSAP operations world, in positions of influence and policy making. Having started on the dispatch floor, I have been in operations for 16 years. I am excited to bring experience to the table.
