For Immediate Release November 21, 2014 Contact: Carmen Wong, MCCA 617-954-2145 Convention Center Authority donates more than Two Tons of furniture to East Boston High School East Boston, Mass. – On Wednesday, November 19, 2014, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) donated approximately 5,000 pounds of furniture to East Boston High School (EBHS). The items were donated as a part of the MCCA’s ongoing Conventions C.A.R.E. program, a program established by the MCCA in 2010 to benefit local nonprofits and exhibitors by encouraging exhibitors to leave leftover booth items behind after their Boston events end. Conventions C.A.R.E. provides nonprofits with useful donations and helps exhibitors to not only save time, but also the expense of shipping goods. Since its formation in 2010, the C.A.R.E.’s program has donated more than 100 tons of materials to local nonprofit organizations. This was the first time Conventions C.A.R.E. goods were distributed to EBHS. EBHS contacted the MCCA with needs for their school after hearing about the Conventions C.A.R.E program from other nonprofits and elected officials. Various members of the EBHS boys’ athletic teams took time out of their lunch period to help carry the donations into the school. The majority of the donations to EBHS derived from the September Sibos event held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC). Sibos is the world’s premier annual conference, exhibition, and networking event for the international financial industry. Items donated by exhibitors included chairs, desks, credenzas, file cabinets, fans, pillows, a couch, and more. EBHS also received a truckload of lightly used furniture from the Hynes Convention Center. “Who knew that the convention center business could positively affect and impact our kids?” asked Anissa George, a teacher at EBHS. “It’s fantastic when an authority like the Massachusetts Convention Center is so generous to neighborhood schools. We create partnerships to benefit all parties involved, and we feel good while doing so.” “It is exciting to expand our Conventions C.A.R.E program to East Boston,” said James E. Rooney executive director of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, which owns and operates the BCEC and the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center. “We were fortunate to receive such an extensive amount of furniture from a distinguished global event like Sibos. It is our mission to have a positive impact on our communities, so we look forward to continuing our donation efforts with new organizations like EBHS.” About the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority owns and oversees the operations of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, the John B.
