post among some trees.
Startled, Lucy meets a faun

CE2 Haikus
CE2s have been studying
natural disasters. They’ve
taken their new knowledge
and applied it to the beautiful and simple style of Japanese poetry: the haiku.

In HSIE and English, Year 2
has been busy learning
about different types of pets
and animals. They have
learnt how to distinguish the
difference between wild animals and domestic pets as
well as identifying Australian
native animals.
Year 2 worked hard on gathering facts about Lions and
Tigers and discussed the
differences and similarities
between them.
The children then chose
their favourite Australian
native animal to research
and have written some insightful information reports.

Drama Toolbox brought to you by the Read-a-Thon
At the beginning of the school
year, 91 students participated in
the first annual Read-a-thon reading 165,899 minutes and raising
$6,184.00. Half of the proceeds
raised went to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation which provides
literacy support for Indigenous
communities. The other half went
to the English department. With
this money, we decided to celebrate the students’ efforts and had
a special event. We organized a
drama incursions for CP to CM2
with Drama Toolbox. A wonderful presenter named Melinda
came to the school over a period
of three days and held workshops
with all the students.
CP experienced the wild world of
minibeasts. CE retold the Aboriginal tale of Tiddalick the
Frog, and CM acted out
different sustainability dilemmas that we face today.
The students truly enjoyed
themselves and the teachers were blown away with
the quality of the presenter and of
the drama experience.
Here are some photos of the wonderful event.
Hopefully next year we can repeat
this unforgettable experience!

The CM2 in Adriane’s class have
taken their creative writing stories
to the next level: writing and illustrating a picture book. After reading and discussing popular children’s picture books the students
created their own storylines and
set off. The result is truly fantastic
and the CPs were entranced as
the CMs read to them.
