OCIC Photojournalism Initiative 2018 Transformations 2018: Call for

OCIC Photojournalism Initiative 2018 Transformations 2018: Call for Expressions of Interest Background OCIC invites organizational members in good standing to submit expressions of interests to partner in a collaborative photojournalism initiative to be launched during International Development Week 2018. Through this initiative OCIC seeks to document and share stories of partnership, resilience and positive change with the Ontario public. These stories are meant to increase dialogue and understanding of how international partnerships address complex global challenges. With the support of an experienced photojournalist, OCIC seeks to learn firsthand about our members’ sustainable development and global solidarity work, and to share specific stories with Ontarians through a series of virtual and small‐scale photo exhibits in select communities across the province over a one year period beginning February 2018. For 10‐12 days in late October – early November 2017 a small OCIC delegation will visit one or more of our member organizations’ partners in Canada or abroad, in order to learn firsthand about the ways that OCIC member organizations and your partners are working together to make a difference. In 2018 the focus of our call for submissions is to deepen understanding of and dialogue related to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development by highlighting projects or programs in one or more of the following thematic areas:  Innovation towards Human Rights, such as Women’s Rights, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples  Innovation in Gender Equality and Equity  Innovation in Engagement of New Audiences in Policy Issues  Community‐based Peacebuilding and Reconciliation Anticipated Outcomes of this initiative include:  To develop a meaningful partnership between OCIC and selected member(s) for the duration of the initiative  To increase dialogue and further understanding of international partnerships that address complex global challenges  To increase public awareness and understanding of OCIC members’ efforts towards sustainable development, partnership and global solidarity in one or more of the proposed thematic areas  To encourage the active engagement of Ontarians in sustainable development and global solidarity efforts Partnership Approach OCIC recognizes and supports the development of good practice by civil society organizations (CSOs), and through a range of activities encourages members of the Council to utilize the globally recognized Istanbul Principles for CSO Development Effectiveness as a framework for doing so. These principles include: 1. To respect and promote human rights and social justice 2. To embody gender equality and equity while promoting women’s and girls’ rights 3. To focus on people’s empowerment, democratic ownership and participation 4. To promote environmental sustainability 5. To practice transparency and accountability 6. To pursue equitable partnerships and solidarity 1 7. To create and share knowledge and commit to mutual learning 8. To commit to realizing positive sustainable change OCIC seeks to practice the Istanbul Principles in our approach to partnership with selected members, and to use these Principles as the overarching framework for the stories that we share. We will work closely with members in planning and undertaking the visit and the resulting exhibit. As a way to implement principles into practice, OCIC and selected members will jointly develop a Partnership Agreement so that our mutual efforts are of significant value for all. Benefits of Partnership OCIC acknowledges the time and effort that partnering in this initiative will require.
