Year 8 History Exam revision details for CE mock exams February 2017
CE paper – 60 mins long unless you have extra time.
Sources (20 marks)
The Sources this term will be on Richard III and you will have to write an essay on this topic using a
mixture of your own knowledge and also referring to and commenting on 3 sources. Two of these
sources will be written and one of them will be pictorial (e.g. a picture or a map etc.)
Using your own knowledge and referring to all the sources, how far is it true to say……….
Likely topics would be:
-
Did Richard III fight bravely at Bosworth?
Was he responsible for the murder of the princes in the Tower?
Was he a bad king?
REMEMBER – you must comment on all the sources AND show some own knowledge. You must
also comment on RELIABILITY and show where the sources agree/disagree.
Essay (30 marks)

You will have to write ONE essay from a choice of 10.
What should you revise?
All year 7 work:


i.e. 1066 Claimants to the throne, Stamford Bridge, Norman Conquest, how did William
establish control over England after Hastings etc.
Henry II – His reign in general and his quarrel with Becket in particular.
Year 8 work:
Since the sources will be on Richard III you may answer an essay question about the Black Death.
Black Death – causes, how it spread, symptoms, ‘cures’ attempted, CONSEQUENCES (the effect on
society, the Church, the Feudal System etc.)
100 Years’ War – CAUSES (use your revision table we worked on in class), plus the battle of Crecy
REMEMBER that you will NOT be asked to describe an event so don’t just learn lots of facts. The
question will ALWAYS ask you to EXPLAIN……… so when you are revising, think to yourself WHY
did things happen and what were the CONSEQUENCES?
If you are looking to answer a question about a war/battle, look at essay questions 1 and 2. The
likely wording of such questions will be:
Explain why one side won a battle or explain the role of a commander in a battle you have studied.
Explain the origins of a conflict between England and another country.
