ASA ADVERTORIAL ADVERTORIAL ASA ASA Athletics Prospers in 2010 — Join us in 2011 T he ASA — The College for Excellence athletic program is currently in only their third year of existence and has already achieved a great amount of success. Here is a quick look at what each of our teams has done this past year. You can be a part of our success in 2011 today! the team’s success, two of ASA’s players were named the region’s Player of the Year and the Pitcher of the Year respectively. Also, a number of former ASA baseball players have gone on to four-year colleges and universities to continue their dream of playing the game that they love. The 2011 Avengers are going into the spring season with immediate success and the potential to achieve even more on the national level. Join the Avengers today to be a part of the program that set the standard for athletic success at ASA! ASA Football The ASA football team is coming off a huge season with a lot of firsts and success. Only in its second season as a program, the team finished with a 7-3 record. The Avengers also played their first season as a member of the Northeast Football Conference. ASA Tennis The ASA — The College for Excellence athletic program is currently in only their third year of existence and has already achieved a great amount of success. You can be a part of our success in 2011 today! The women’s tennis team has achieved instant success this past year in only their fi rst season as a program. The 2010 team fi nished their spring season ranked an impressive #7 in the nation according to the National Junior College Athletic Association poll. The team has a national schedule traveling to such places as Florida and Arizona to compete in the highest level tournaments. The program has also already hosted a regional tournament at the prestigious U.S. Tennis Center in Flushing, the home of the US Open. Second year head coach, Richard Bowie, is young and enthusiastic and is building a program that has already achieve recognition as one of the best tennis programs in the nation! Coach Bowie has already produced NJCAA All-Americans in a handful of ASA student-athletes. In addition to the women’s tennis program, ASA has started a men’s tennis program that will embark on their fi rst ever season as a National Junior College Athletic Association team this spring! ASA is a chance to become a part of something special in the tennis world! ASA football now provides a college football opportunity for prospective athletes and fans alike. On September 4, 2010 the team played their first ever home game in Brooklyn at Old Boys’ High field in front of an enthusiastic crowd. During the season, the Avengers would be ranked in the Top 25 National Junior College Athletic Association poll for three weeks, ranking as high as 19th in the country. Not a bad feat for a second-year program! The ASA football program’s success was not just limited to their season. The Avengers achieved just as much success after the season. Eight players were named All-Conference for their efforts during the season, including four to the First Team. ASA also had its fi rst National Junior College Athletic Association All-American in Brooklyn resident, Chris Watson. In addition to their post-season awards, eight players (and counting!) will be moving on to continue their academic and football careers at NCAA Division I colleges and universities. Two players will even be playing in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) at the University of Mississippi next season! Stay tuned for more to come from ASA football. College football is finally back in Brooklyn! pressive 22-6 record and a Region XV-Division I championship game appearance, their second in two years. Head coach and director of athletics, Ken Wilcox, will be approaching his 200th win as a college head coach for the 2010-11 season. In addition to the team’s success, a former Avenger, Roberto Colonette of Queens, accepted a full athletic scholarship at Manhattan College! Colonette finished the 2010-11 season as the Region XV-Division I Player of the Year and National Junior College Athletic Association All-American. If you like playing or simply watching basketball, ASA is the place to be in 2011! ASA Men’s Basketball ASA Women’s Basketball The ASA men’s basketball team is going into the 2010-11 season with high hopes due to the success of the 2009-10 season. The Avengers finished the 2009-10 campaign with an im- The ASA Lady Avengers are going into the 2010-11 season and the future can’t look any brighter. The Avengers are led by a coaching star in the making in head coach, Adia Men’s Soccer Revell. Coach Revell, a Brooklyn native, has already been featured in a number of publications for her hard work in building a successful basketball program. In only their first year of existence as a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) competitor, the Lady Avengers completed the 2009-10 season with a winning record and an appearance in the Region XV-Division I championship game. For her efforts, Coach Revell was named the region’s Coach of the Year. ASA also boasted the region’s Player of the Year who went on to become an NJCAA All-American. ASA women’s basketball presents a 2010-11 team laden with New York City talent wanting to achieve the most amount of success possible. It is a great time to be a Lady Avenger! ASA Baseball The ASA baseball team is coming off of a stellar 2010 season. The Avengers became the first ASA team to win the Region X V-Division title. Because of the team’s success, head coach and a regular on the New York City baseball scene, Francisco Perez, was named the regional Coach of the Year. In addition to The ASA men’s soccer team finished its second year as a program in 2010 with an appearance in the Region XV-Division I title game, a great feat for a second-year program. The team is guided by first year head coach, Kenichi Yatsuhashi. Coach Yatsuhashi is very well known in the New York City soccer world and beyond as a coach who has achieved success at many levels in soccer. ASA also has the privilege of the playing the majority of their home contests at Met Oval in Queens, one of the most revered playing fields in New York City. Come kick with the Avengers in 2011!
