SCHOOL MALL – ROUND TWO - DING!!!
LMS PARENTS: Please find attached an envelope from School Mall with information on their “spring
program” and how to help us raise a little more for our school as well as win a prize for your
child(ren). They will receive a light up emoji ring for participating and then there are points that will
convert to additional prizes based on how many of your family and friends place an order.
SOMETHING NEW THIS YEAR IS THE “GOLDEN TICKET – once you sign up and send the email
invitations, you can enter your Golden Ticket number to find out if you have our school’s winning
Golden Ticket worth $100.00 for your family!!! The information in the packet is self-explanatory
but if you have any questions, please give Cheryl a call in the school office, 783-1134.
MORE THAN ANYTHING, this is a reminder for everyone that School Mall runs the entire school
year!!! When we do the “big” School Mall fundraiser in the fall of the school year (where we fill out a
booklet of coupons that are mailed to our friends & family), then anytime during the
school year that we/our family/or our friends make a purchase from participating online stores (that include Walmart, Target, Sears, Kohl’s, Office Depot and Family
Book Store), our school will get up to 50% from all paid orders (as long as Lake
Minatare Elementary is selected as the recipient). Again, if you have any questions,
please call Cheryl.
KINDERGARTEN
Mrs. Claflin did an awesome job filling in for me as my substitute! Most of the kids worked hard for
her and were very respectful! I am so happy to be back! I am healing very quickly and am thankful
for all the good wishes, food, and gifts! Thank you!
In math we are working very hard on shapes and their attributes. They are sorting shapes by size,
color, number of corners, straight sides, and curved sides. We are also learning about pennies and
nickels in number corner.
I am so impressed with how writing workshop is going. Some are writing three sentences for the
beginning of their story, three sentences for the middle, and three sentences for the end! Wow!
Some are still writing one sentence for each and that’s okay. They will get there!
We celebrated the 100th day of school on Wednesday! We made necklaces with 100 fruit loops, hats
with 100 on them, and we did hundreds of exercises! Phew! If you look at your class dojo I posted
lots of pictures.
If you are not reading with your child in the evening, please try to find time to do so. It really does
help them make progress in class.
We will decorate paper bags for Valentines in class. You
don’t have to make anything at home. I will be sending a
class list home soon. Please help your child write on each
valentine who it is to and who it is from. I will let you know as
it gets close when we will celebrate and see if anyone wants
to send treats.
FIRST & SECOND GRADE
We have been studying about the Solar System in Science the last few weeks and finished up with
our unit test today. Ask your child to tell you something they learned about the sun, moon or planets.
The Chinese New Year began last Friday and we have been sharing information about China in
Social Studies. We will end our study with a video-Big Bird in China - (and enjoy
popcorn eaten with chopsticks) tomorrow.
Our Valentine Party will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14th at 2:30 p.m. Thank you to
those of you who volunteered for our party: Roommother- Kate Schmer - 6725971
Snacks: Kate; Zoleigh’s mom, Jessica Reffalt-Herrera - 672-9211 and Justyce’s mom,
Tabitha McCloud - 641-8919
Drinks & cups, if needed - Tyce’s mom, Lucrecia Spady-641-2258.
If anyone would like to bring plates and napkins, let me know. Otherwise, I will bring some. We
have 23 students in our class now. Students should bring a valentine for each one in our class. If
this is a hardship for anyone, please let me know. Valentines may be brought on Monday or Tuesday
of that week. Here is a list of those in our class:
Claire, Emilee, Taylor, Bradon, Avery, Mason, Charleigh, Leticia, Lucas,
Gauge, Addison, Jaycek, Charlie, Ava, Emma, Justyce, Robert, Dylan,
Zoleigh, Macky, Shara, Tyce, Justin, Mrs. Farrier and Mrs. Martin.
Keep reading at home and doing Math Home Connections!
Thank you!!!!
Mrs. Martin
THIRD & FOURTH GRADE
*Happy February! It’s a busy month, as we keep learning and preparing for state testing in March and
April.
*Remember it’s time to return January Book-It calendars, if your child participated.
*We will have a small Valentine’s party on Valentine’s Day…. more information will come home soon.
*Please help your child remember to practice spelling words, complete homework when it comes
home, and read at least 20 minutes per day at home!
FIFTH GRADE
Our Valentine party will be on Tuesday Feb. 14th, at 2:30 p.m. If
you would like to bring sweet or savory treats for the party that
would be awesome. Students may also bring Valentines and
Valentine boxes along with any game ideas you may have.
We are studying Forces and Motion in Science class now which
means “Balloon Racer” time! Students are to construct a racer
out of things found at home. Please do not buy anything for its
construction. Cereal boxes, bottle caps, old toy car wheels, etc.
will work just fine. I will provide the balloons, and we will race
them against each other on the 15th of this month. It is
recommended that you try out your car at home to make sure
the balloon stays attached and that it rolls straight. Have fun with the design! 
Remember to write your book summaries for each of this quarter’s genres.
ATTENTION: FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS & PARENTS
It is not too early to start thinking about looking for 4-5 pictures for
the Power Point on the last day of school for 5th Grade Recognition.
You can turn them in to Cheryl in the school office – ANYTIME!!!
