What is Midas? MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme

What is Midas?
MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme promotes a nationally
recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers. It
is a membership based scheme that has been designed to enhance
minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses.
Midas training will provide you with a certificate which enables you to
drive the minibuses in your organisation.
What types of Midas are there?
Standard MiDAS is a classroom based session in the skills and information you need when driving
a minibus. This will be followed by a multiple choice exam paper to check your theory
knowledge. On successful completion of the theory assessment you will take a driving
assessment in the afternoon (usually an hour). After successfully completing your drivers
assessment you will have completed your MiDAS training and will receive your certificate.
Accessible MiDAS is the same as the standard MiDAS but is aimed
at those who have accessible driving minibuses. You will do an
extra module and will undertake a practical skills assessment
where you can show understanding of using a passenger lift. You
are able to drive an accessible bus with standard MiDAS
certificates but if you need to use the accessible equipment
please book an accessible course.
Refreshing your MiDAS certificates is required 4 years after your certificate is gained. These are
detailed above and include: a reassessment of your driving ability, a classroom based training
session, theory assessment and a practical skills assessment if you drive accessible buses.
Who needs Midas training?
Midas training is provided to the appointed person(s) in your organisation who is responsible for
driving minibuses. MiDAS is applicable to any organisation operating or using minibuses. Member
organisations range from small voluntary organisations operating one vehicle, to local authorities
operating large fleets of minibuses as well as schools, colleges and universities.
What do I need to bring?
