aloud.
Discussion Questions:
1) What was special about David that God chose to make a covenant with him?
(He is called a man after God’s own heart. He wanted to build a beautiful temple for
God. He wanted to lead the Israelites to follow God with joy. David had a pure heart.
When he did sin, he totally repented. This was a fulfilled promise to Abraham that kings
would come from Abraham’s seed. David’s line becomes the special focus in God’s plan
of salvation.)
2) Do you feel joyful when you go to church just like David when he brought the
Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem? Why do you think David was joyful? (He loved God.
He had the opportunity to lead the people to follow God.)
3) Do you think God would give you wisdom like he did to Solomon if you ask for it?
Why or why not?

Search the Story: (20 min)

set. (This may be done prior to class time if assigned as homework)
Snack: (10 minutes) Cracker triangles and cream cheese
After giving the kids the triangular crackers and an individual cup with a scoop of cream
cheese, have them form the Star of David as a reminder of the covenant of royal dynasty
fulfilled through King David. Read 2 Samuel 7:11-16 to the children where the language is
used to establish the royal kingdom with David and his ancestors. God reveals His
covenant to Nathan, a prophet, who reports this to David. David’s response is a prayer of
thanksgiving and praise to God.
Application questions: Do you remember to praise and give thanks to God for all of your
gifts when you pray? If you are old enough to receive Holy Communion, you probably
know that you are to offer up a prayer of thanksgiving and praise after you receive Jesus’
body and blood. Explain to the person next to you, why we would give thanks and praise
to God at this point in the Mass.
