NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION
The student will be given an opportunity to actively participate in the general practice of both anatomic and clinical pathology
in a community setting along with general nuclear medicine. Intra-departmental rotations will include surgical pathology,
autopsy, cytopathology, clinical chemistry, blood bank, microbiology and medical microscopy. A complete array of in vivo
clinical imaging procedures will be available, including nuclear cardiology and planar and tomographic SPECT studies.
There will be an opportunity to gain experience in clinical thyroidology, primarily comprised of therapy and management of
hyperthyroidism.
OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this elective, the student will be able to:

Describe the instrumentation and radionuclides used in contemporary nuclear medicine.

Review all nuclear medicine procedures on a daily basis and state indications for each and alternate modalities
