Bible
The focus of fourth grade Bible is to promote a personal
relationship with God and to develop application of biblical
concepts in daily living including the following:
 Bible verse memorization
 Special weekly chapel programs
 Biblical conflict resolution
 Topics in units including: Philippians, Creation through
Joshua, Psalms and Proverbs, Divided kingdom, King
Saul’s reign
English
The fourth grade curriculum builds writing skills and correct grammar usage by emphasizing the following:
 Sentence structure including subject and predicates,
nouns, pronouns, actions and linking verbs, adjectives,
and adverbs and diagramming of sentences
 Study and reference skills
 Writing assessments that focus on the writing of personal narratives, friendly and business letters, persuasive essays, research reports, compare & contrast essays, and journal writing
Reading
The reading curriculum utilizes visual tools and process
questions in order to develop higher level thinking and
comprehension as independent readers. The units include
the following skills:
 Introduction and mastery of new vocabulary words as
well as identification of antonyms, synonyms, and part
of speech
 Concepts such as sequence of events, main idea and
summarization, cause and effect, character and questioning, plot and author’s purpose, illustrations and
main idea, setting and summarization, drawing conclusions, comparison & contrast, context clues, important
details and theme, fact & opinion, summarization, and
problem solving.

Students are taught to compare their reading sections
to the Bible to see if they accept or reject the author’s
ideas and explain why the author’s ideas are true or
false.
Math
Math focuses on mathematical usage, thinking, and problem
solving in our world through:
 Place value and operations with whole numbers
 Fractions and decimals
 Problem solving
 Geometry, measurement, and data
 Preparations for grade five
Grade
Profile
Spelling
The conventional spelling and word study curriculum teaches students to accurately convey information through the
written word. Students will study phonetically-consistent
pattern words and high-frequency words in conjunction with
writing assignments that give them opportunities to apply
their learned spelling in any context. Within the curriculum,
students receive differentiated instruction either through
providing extra support or through challenging the high
achiever. The lessons include activities such as games, puzzles, stories, poetry, and much more.
Handwriting
Penmanship emphasizes the mastery of cursive handwriting
across all subjects.
Science
In the science units creation concepts from a Biblical worldview are taught. The units include:
 Life Science—Stability
 Physical Science—Energy
 Earth and Space Science—Balance
Social Studies
The major emphasis is on Indiana history from a Biblical
worldview. The units include:
 Geography, early inhabitants, territory, statehood, pioneers, growing and changing, modern times, state government.
 Students also learn about the regions of the United
States, the fifty states and their capitals.
Weekly Specials
The academic curriculum is enhanced by early exposure to
art, library, music, Spanish, beginning band, and physical
education.
