I entertain through balloon twisting, face painting, magic shows and a few other mediums. I consider balloons as my main medium and really enjoy working on creating that wow moment for kids as I create sculptures for them. I work at restaurants, parties, weddings and corporate events. I employ 6 sub-contractors, all of whom I have individually trained so that they can successfully represent my business as children’s performers. I find teaching a rewarding experience and spend a great deal of time ensuring that my entertainers are working to a high standard and performing consistently. I believe that quality training is vital in order to have staff that can demonstrate excellent entertaining skills. In the next year, I aim to begin travelling overseas for balloon conventions in an effort to increase my knowledge and capabilities in the art form. What does Tennille love most about OzJam? I love the enriching experiences that OzJam provides – including the networking opportunities, the teaching and learning, and being able to immerse yourself in other people’s art and gain new knowledge from doing so. What started as a hobby has now turned into a full-time job. I was busking around Melbourne to learn my craft and work on speed and routine, now I do gigs around Melbourne, from parties to shopping centres to corporate events. The majority of my work is through Balloons by Design, I met Brendan 7 years ago and he gave me a start in the industry (I count him as a great inspiration and friend). I like to do off beat balloons that others wouldn’t think of, I love heavy metal music and often make balloons for fans on Instagram and other forums - I think I’m the only TOOL fan that makes balloons. The majority of the gigs I do are roaming gigs, which I love and, in the future, I’d like to have a go at decor as I think my twisting skills would make for some great and unique creations. What does Mick love most about OzJam? Meeting new people with the same passion and catching up with balloonies that I have me in past years. I really love that the Kiwi’s come over, as they add a lot to OzJam and to have the chance to meet and learn off International stars is priceless - Phileas Flash being the highlight of all OzJams so far. Queensland Donna Bowman, Colour Me Happy Entertainment M: 0423 282 467 E: [email protected] www.facebook.com/Colour-Me-Happy-Entertainment-922382274495666/ I started face painting in November 2012. After meeting up with some fellow artists in Brisbane, I went to a local ‘jam’ and realised the potential that balloon twisting could add to my business. From there, I attended a few Balloon Decor workshops followed by my first trip to Melbourne in 2013 to attend my very first Oz Jam. I have met some amazing people, made some wonderful friendships and learnt a tonne. It is without a doubt the most fun event of the year and always the first thing I book each year. What does Donna love most about OzJam? The amount of quality skills and knowledge learnt from the gurus of the Balloon Twisting/Decor world is second to none. I enjoy the open and friendly nature of the convention and all attendees to help each other out, to make the industry even stronger. I love the great people I meet from all walks of life that turn into great friendships. Many, many nights spent with me, my balloons and You Tube! My favourite thing about balloons is that people cannot help but smile, I love the reactions of the kids and the big kids when you hand them a cool balloon and it just makes their day. I attended my first OzJam in 2015, and I’m hooked. What an amazing experience, meeting so may awesome people who are mad about balloons too! New Zealand Gwyn Pardoe from Airagarmi 2012 M: 0212 468 901 E: [email protected] www.facebook.com/Airagarmi-2012-489453047732001/?ref=hl Hello everyone. Life is so full of opportunities that scream for my attention...and I accept. I am a registered teacher at Wanganui, where my family and I have lived for many years. I first “fell in love” with balloon art after seeing balloons featured in a friend’s wedding photos. I discovered that the business was for sale and jumped at the chance to buy it. The prior owner introduced me to Ken Bates, Zappo’s dad, who happened to be twisting balloons for a mall gig at the time. I watched closely and before I left he suggested that I look up Pippity-Pop. I did and instantly fell in love with her work. I am inspired with the perfect alignment of each bubble, her eye for detail, how the balloons tell a story or reflect a personality, capturing a specific character. My weekends are now filled with balloon twisting and decor, face painting, and adding a bit of sparkle to as many smiling faces as I can. Last year I met Zappo for the first time and while I was attempting to learn the woven flower twist, he suggested I go to Ozjam 2015. So I did...Exciting...eeeeekkkk!! What Gwyn loves most about OzJam? 2015 was my first Ozjam experience and although the only person I had met was Zappo a couple of months prior, I felt welcome. Imagine how it felt to be surrounded by people sharing similar interest and being able to have every question answered. I think what is most amazing is that the people are generous with their knowledge and skill, willing to help in any way they can. People with expertise on offer can cater for learners wanting to know more about twisting, decor, ways to grow your business, tips and techniques to perfect your skills, and so much more. Perhaps best of all, is the opportunity to meet some of the incredibly talented people in this field and learn from them at a pace that is right for you.
