Executive Committee Meeting February 17,2015 FS 14/15-XX/APC/EX Attachment: EX 14/15-86 Faculty Office Hours Policy, Amendment Of: The Faculty Senate recommends amendment of the Faculty Office Hours Policy (UMF04360.htm), effective Fall 2015. 1. Updates the policy to include virtual office hours. It allows departments to offer more explicit expectations about office hours for faculty who teach online courses. 2. Clarifies the policy to be applied based on appointment and not be determined by number of units being taught. FACULTY OFFICE HOURS "Full-time fFaculty with full-time appointments are required to schedule three (3) office hours each week plus the opportunity for students and colleagues to make appointments. Faculty teaching online or hybrid courses should schedule an appropriate mix of on-line, by phone, in-person or combination thereof as determined by the department policy. Office hours shall be stated in course syllabi and be made available through the department office. [For faculty with less than full-time appointments, this policy has been interpreted as requiring 45 minutes of scheduled office hours each week for each three (3) units of instructional assignment.]
