“Service Without Compromise”
Campus Safety is dedicated to providing
the PLU community a safe and secure campus
environment. Campus Safety works in partnership
with the Central Pierce Fire and Rescue and the
Pierce County Sheriff’s Department on issues and
incidents related to the campus community.
Campus Safety is comprised of both
professional staff and student staff. Officers are
trained in CPR and First Aid. They also receive
training in diversity, crisis intervention, interpersonal
communication and a host of other forums. The
training program is on-going and a vital part of
learning and professional development.
Campus Safety student staff are divided into
four positions; Safety Officers, Video Officers,
Communications Officers and Escort Officers.
Campus Safety provides several services to the
PLU community:
• Escorts: walking escorts around the campus
community are provided 24 hours a day
• Shuttle: Rides are available to and from
campus within a designated boundary
• Emergency Medical Response
• Policy Enforcement
• Vehicle Jump Starts
• Parking Education and Enforcement
• Campus safety patrols
Most parking lots around campus are
equipped with emergency phones, easily located by
the blue light visible on the top of the phone pole.
Video Surveillance is used in most parking
lots 24 hours per day.
SAFETY TIPS
• Lock your doors/windows whenever you
leave your room or house
• Do not allow unescorted strangers inside your room or house
• Be suspicious of unknown persons
loitering in the area
• Never leave an exterior door propped
open
• Keep a record of your valuables
• Do not leave personal property
unattended on tables or chairs
• Lock your vehicle every time you leave it
• Call Campus Safety for an escort/shuttle
to or from parking lots if you are uncomfortable walking alone
• Report any suspicious person/activities
to Campus Safety

Neighborhood Parking:
Parking is available on many of the county streets
surrounding the campus. The parking regulations
are strictly enforced. If you park in the street, please
keep safety in mind and be considerate of those
living in these neighborhoods.

Visitor Parking:
Visitors may park in most lots after obtaining a
temporary parking pass from the Campus Safety
Office. Visitors may park on the street without
obtaining a pass.
Unauthorized Parking:
Parking in an unauthorized place will result in a
ticket being issued and subjects the vehicle to being
towed at the owner’s expense.
Common Causes for Tickets:
• Failure to register or display decal.
• Parking in unauthorized lot.
• Parking in a “non-space” (vehicles must be
between two white painted lines).
• Parking in Handicapped or Carpool spaces
Special Parking Information:
• Tingelstad Gated Lot vehicles must park facing
a concrete parking block.
