I can’t believe that December has arrived, are you
all busy getting ready for Christmas? The children
have all started practising their Christmas songs
- whether they are walking back from the park or
singing at circle time, I can hear them all getting
into the Christmas spirit.
If you haven’t had time to sort your Christmas
presents out I have the perfect solution! The
children have produced a Christmas tea towel with
individual portraits or hand prints - an ideal gift for
Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents. Tea towels will
be on sale very soon and cost £4.50. Order forms
will be handed out by the staff in your room, the
nursery earns a 20% commission on all purchases.
You can also purchase lots of other items such as
mugs, key rings, t-shirts and mouse mats. Please
see Kelly or the Deputies for more information.
The staff are all getting busy preparing for the
children’s Christmas parties, please sign your
child up on the lists on the office window if your
child will be attending. The dates of the Christmas
parties are in the diary section. Only Parents of
Pre-school children can join the Christmas party
as they are doing a performance. Photographs and
video recordings can be taken, however they are
not permitted to be shared on social network sites
such as Facebook and Twitter.
Now that the winter weather has set in children
are prone to pick up more illnesses and bugs.
Please make yourself aware of our exclusion
periods, sick child and medicine policy which
are available on our current issues board. I do
understand that the combined pressures of work
and caring for a sick child can make things very
difficult. My role is also to ensure the wellbeing
of all the children in my care which includes not
exposing children to any unnecessary illnesses and
infections.
I am pleased to announce that Lisa from the
Toddler room gave birth to a baby boy called
Freddie, weighing 6lb 10oz.
On behalf of everyone at Elan I’d like to wish you a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Notes from Nisanka (Deputy and EYT)
I would like to thank you all for making our charity
event a success by taking part in all the activities
we organized. I am happy to announce that we
have raised £65.18 which will be donated to ‘The
Foundation of Goodness’.
I would like to thank all the parents/staff who
worked really hard to bake some delicious cakes/
biscuits for us. I will keep you up-to-date on how
the money was spent.

Fruit of the month
Clementines
Pre-school: (From Millie)
Toddlers: (From Chloe)
We had a really busy November in Pre-School
with lots going on. I am delighted to tell you about
how well the children did during the 2 minutes
silence on Poppy Day. The children amazed the
staff as they watched the service on BBC Live and
proudly held their poppies quietly for the whole
two minutes. We talked to the children about
the soldiers and the Big Ben after seeing it on the
television.
This month, Toddlers have been showing great
enjoyment looking at and learning about fireworks.
We did energetic physical activities in the Studio
running and jumping around like fireworks ‘pop’,
‘bang’ and ‘whizz’. We also heard that some of
you visited different firework displays. Many of
your children were excited to tell us about what
they had seen. Toddlers helped to make a fantastic
bright and interesting display in Toddler Room that
has all the planets on. We used a wide variety of
colours to decorate all the different planets, aliens
and rockets. We had an exciting time creating
some lovely cakes and treats with the children
ready for our fund raiser which took place on the
26th where we invited all the children to dress
up in blue and all got stuck in to some fun ‘blue’
themed activities. Christmas is slowly creeping up
on us and Toddlers are already getting very excited.
We have started to create our Christmas display
and the children have been making beautiful
penguins using paint brushes and their hand prints.
I and Toddler Room team are looking forward to
getting all the children involved in some fabulous
Christmas experiences.
We have also been looking at how to make
different types of dough for the children to
explore. Last month we made different textures.
This time, we made different smells including
gingerbread and coffee. Coffee was the favourite
and children used the dough to make pretend
cakes. If you have any recipes you make at home
please let us know.
There are some spaces available in our Little
Kickers group. If you are interested and would like
some more information please talk to Millie.
I would like to thank all the parents for sharing
their thoughts with us at the parents’ evening.
Feedback from the evening made me aware
that many parents are unsure on the amount of
television time the children are having. I would like
to reassure you that children are only allowed 20
minutes of TV time between 5.30 to 5.50pm. After
this, we have reflection time and children are able
to talk about their day.
Explorers: (From Sam)
Veg of the month
Cabbage
The explorers have been learning about the solar
system. The children coloured in pictures of the
planets. They then used scissors to cut them out
and stick them onto black paper. We used sticking
activity as an opportunity to learn counting as
the children were encouraged to count while
they were sticking the planets on to paper. We
also learnt a new song about the solar system.
The children enjoyed watching the video on the
computer. Arran was naming the different colours
that he could see. As learning about fire safety is
so important, teachers in Explorers used ‘Frances
the Firefly’, story to teach the children about fire
safety. We also talked about not touching fire as it
burns and not touching matches. The children then
talked about this at circle time and were retelling
what they remembered from ‘Frances the Firefly’
story. The children decorated beautiful poppies
using red and green glitter and tissue paper. Harry
asked a practitioner why they were wearing a
poppy. The practitioner then told him and his
friends that we wear them to remember brave
men and women. Next month, we will be getting
ready for Christmas! We will be making cards and
singing lots of Christmas songs. We will also be
celebrating Hanukah with the children.
Babies: (From Nicole)
I am so proud of the new look that the Baby Room
has been given with a lick of paint and all the new
display boards. We have been working on putting
new displays up to decorate the room.
In November, the children have had lots of fun
making fire work pictures to celebrate Guy Fawkes.
The children chose which coloured paint they
would like to use and had a go at spattering the
paint on the paper. Zack said ‘yay!’ when he saw
the paint appear on the paper.
Jess has made a brilliant space display with the
children, where they decorated rocket ships. We
have been singing ‘zoom zoom we’re going to the
moon’ with this topic where the children have
loved joining in and saying ‘whoosh’ at the end.
To help raise money for the Sri-Lankan charity,
‘Foundation of Goodness’, we made some yummy
scrummy Fairy cakes. They were very tasty.
In December, we will be busy getting ready for
Christmas! On the week of the 15th of December
the children will be having a Christmas party week
filled with fantastic activities such as bubbles,
balloons, Christmas treasure baskets and music.
