OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Founded in the good news of Christ that “God so loved the world that he gave
(us) his only Son” (Jn 3:16) and knowing that he (Christ) “came that we might
have life—life in all fullness” (Jn 10:10) and rooted in Jesus’ command to “Love
one another as I have loved you” (Jn 13:34), we the members of Christ the
Redeemer Parish commit ourselves:
† To foster an understanding and sharing of Christ’s message
† To celebrate the glory of God in liturgy which recognizes our diversity and
calls us to oneness in God’s presence
† To challenge the faithful to respond to Christ’s call to meet the needs of all
people with compassion and charity.

INITIATION
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA)
Come and Become Catholic
“Live as children of the light…”
On this Fourth Sunday of Lent, The Elect, who are preparing to celebrate Easter
Sacraments, approach the altar a second time to celebrate The Second Scrutiny.
They will do so once more next week. The Scrutinies call to mind their need and
ours to examine ourselves closely, seek healing and support in preparation for the
mysteries of Easter. And we do so publicly before we lift up the Prayers of the
Faithful.
Today’s readings use the metaphor of light. From our Hebrew ancestors we
receive the ritual of anointing with oil to make God’s choice shine before all. St.
Paul asks us to live as children of the light in order for God’s Glory to be made
visible.

Whether you hear the long or short version of today’s Gospel, you will
undoubtedly recall that Jesus heals a blind man. Jesus has performed many
miracles. The importance of today’s act is that it takes place within a
conversation on sin. To many, a man born blind must have had a reason
attributed either to his upbringing, his parents, or his own personal acts.
What happens when God comes to anoint you?
Sacraments are visible signs or God’s real and saving presence in our lives.
Imagine this blind man as he experiences God’s Glory, receives the light that
casts out sin and doubt and is able to see God face to face.

CHRIST THE REDEEMER COUNCIL #16234
Christ the Redeemer Council #16234 is one of the youngest Councils in the Knights of Columbus Organization, having been chartered in June, 2015. Before that time, parishioners who wished to belong to the
Knights belonged to the Good Samaritan Council at Saint Joseph’s Church in Herndon.
At present, we have sixty-two members in our Council, with over half of our membership coming over
from the Good Samaritan Council. Now that we have our Council up and running, we would like to increase the number of members to one hundred-or more! We hope you will consider becoming a member.
We know you have some questions, so here are answers to some frequently asked questions.
WHO CAN BECOME A KNIGHT? Member ship in the Knights of Columbus is open to men 18 year s of age or older
who are practical (that is; practicing) Catholics in union with the Holy See. This means that an applicant or member accepts
the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals, aspires to live in accord with the precepts of the
Catholic Church, and is in good standing in the Catholic Church.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BECOME A MEMBER? You need to fill out a ver y shor t document, a Form 100,
which you can obtain from any Knight and return it to him. Within a few weeks, you will be contacted to attend a First Degree Ceremony, which lasts approximately 30 minutes. At the conclusion, you will be a member of the Knights of Columbus.
DOES IT COST MONEY TO BE IN THE KNIGHTS? Once you become a member , annual dues ar e $35.00 per year .
HOW OFTEN DO THE KNIGHTS MEET? We meet on the second and four th Mondays of the month at Chr ist the
Redeemer. We say a Rosary at 7:00 PM and the meetings start at 7:30 PM. The first meeting of the month is the Business
Meeting; the second meeting is either a social gathering or a Degree ceremony (there are three different Degree ceremonies at
the Council level).
DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE MEETINGS? No. We would like for you to attend thr ee Business Meetings a year ,
but you are under no obligation to do so.
AFTER I BECOME A MEMBER, WHAT DO YOU NEED ME TO DO? By going to Mass on Sunday, you ar e already doing what you need to do. Once you become a member, we would like for you to enter full Knighthood by completing
the Second and Third Degrees. We only ask that you help when you can. Our Council, for the most part, only does small fund
raising events after Mass. All of our events benefit our Council, Parish or intellectually disabled persons, though the KOVAR
program. We communicate about upcoming events via e-mail, so you can sign up for those events that you are interested in
helping with.
SHOULD I WAIT UNTIL I RETIRE OR MY KIDS GO TO COLLEGE BEFORE I JOIN? Please don’t! This is the
biggest mistake many of us have made. The Knights were founded as an organization to assist the widows and orphans of
Catholic men. To accomplish this goal, the Knights of Columbus administers its own Life Insurance Program, which is one of
the highest rated in the Nation. Many of us joined too late in life to take full advantage of this benefit and we are now paying
higher premiums on the open market than if we had joined the Knights when we first thought about becoming a member.
I DO NOT THINK I CAN BE A MEMBER, BUT I STILL WANT TO HELP. You may make a contr ibution to the
Christ the Redeemer Knights of Columbus GoFundMe Site https://www.gofundme.com/r529xg9w to help us
reach our start up goal of $5,000.
