CUBE SOFTWARE LICENSING SYSTEM

CUBE SOFTWARE LICENSING SYSTEM
Cube 6.1.1 and older releases
Virtual Environments can be used with dongle licenses. VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V are in wide
use among Cube users. A server license or ELA is often recommended for these situations, even if the usage
of dongle licence may be done.
Virtual machines operate identically to a standalone workstation as far as Cube is concerned.
Workstation Dongle licence
Citilabs utilizes a hardware key called a "dongle" to restrict the use of the Cube Software Suite to licensed
users. The dongle is required for Cube to open and for the software to continue to function. The dongle can
come in several formats, specifically USB, Parallel port, ExpressCard (laptop), and PCMCIA card (laptop).
Single seat dongles are typically given to an end user to use on their workstation. These dongles allow one
user at a time, per dongle, to use the software. Per the terms of the licensing agreement, the dongle may be
taken offsite and used at meetings or at home, on any machine that the user has installed Cube and the
corresponding license software for the dongle.
Citilabs provides a license file that is compatible with the dongle. This license must be installed on the
workstation as a prerequisite to Cube. The dongle also requires a driver supplied by the dongle manufacturer,
Data Encryption Systems Ltd. (DESkey), for Cube to function properly.
Server Dongle Licence
Citilabs utilizes a hardware key called a "dongle" to restrict the use of the Cube Software Suite to licensed
users. The dongle is required for Cube to open and for the software to continue to function. The dongle can
come in several formats, specifically USB, Parallel port, ExpressCard (laptop), and PCMCIA card (laptop).
A server dongle is a dongle usually coded with multiple “seats” to allow several users to use Cube at the same
time from a single dongle over the local network. A normal dongle contains a single seat, which allows for a
single user to run Cube. A server dongle can contain one or more seats and will dynamically allocate one seat
for each workstation that connects to it over the network.
A server dongle does not actually need to be plugged into a real server; it can run from any computer that
has local network access (workstations with Windows 7 and 8 as OS can be used).
Citilabs provides a license file that is compatible with the dongle. This license must be installed on each
workstation as a prerequisite to Cube. The dongle also requires a driver supplied by the dongle manufacturer,
Data Encryption Systems Ltd. (DESkey), for Cube to function properly. Port 3029 must be open on the license
server to allow clients to connect and check out a license.
Corporate Licence / ELA
Corporate/ELA licenses do not require a dongle to function. If you have any existing dongles, it is required
that these be returned to Citilabs upon installation of your Corporate/ELA license.
Single seat undongled licence files are given to an end users to use on their workstation. This license must be
installed on the workstation as a prerequisite to Cube.
Cube 6.4 and later releases
The new licensing system allows for great flexibility and is dongle free. It is in the form of a 16-digit activation
code, with the following possibilities:
Two types of licenses are provided in the new system: Node locked and Floating. Node Locked licenses are
stand-alone licenses and are tied to one individual PC. Floating licenses are server based licenses which allow
multiple users to check out the license (based on the availability) by connecting to the server. These second
type of license could be “standard” or “server” floating license, as explained in the diagram below.
Note that it is not possible in any case to host a license in a Virtual Machine. It is only possible to share the
license from a VM, but the license must be hosted (activated) in a Physical Machine, for licensing control
reasons.
