FASTCLIP™ SLIDE CLIPS (FCSCs) AND FASTCLIP™
EXTENDED CLIPS (FCECs)
A Subsidiary of the International Code Council ®
Screws are installed to attach the clip to the cold-formed
steel stud, allowing horizontal loads to be transferred from
the stud web to the supporting structure while allowing
vertical movement of the supporting structure. Each clip is
embossed with marks along the short leg to locate where
the fasteners must be installed to attach the clip to the
supporting structure. See Figures 4 through 7 for
illustrations of the FastClips.
3.2 Materials:
3.2.1 FCSCs and FCECs: The FCSCs and FCECs
described in this report are manufactured from steel
conforming to ASTM A1003/A1003M-13, Structural Grade
50, Type H (ST50H). The FastClips have a minimum zinc
coating of G90 in accordance with ASTM A653.
3.2.2 Connections:

2.0 USES
The ClarkDietrich FastClip™ Slide Clips (FCSCs) and
FastClip™ Extended Clips (FCECs) cold-formed steel
connectors are used to attach the cold-formed steel studs
of a building’s exterior curtain wall to the supporting
structure, to transfer wind or seismic loads acting
perpendicular to the exterior curtain wall to the supporting
structure, and to accommodate vertical movement
between exterior wall elements and the primary supporting
structure.
3.0 DESCRIPTION
3.1 General:
The FCSCs and FCECs are L-shaped steel connectors,
consisting of two legs: the longer leg with vertical slotted
holes for attaching to cold-formed steel studs, and the
shorter leg embossed with marks for attaching to the
supporting structure. See Figures 1 through 3. The
FastClip™ clips are identified by the length of the slotted
leg. The FCSCs are available in 31/2-inch (89 mm) and
1
5 /2-inch (140 mm) lengths. The FCECs are available in
6-inch (152 mm), 8-inch (203 mm), 10-inch (254 mm) and
12-inch (305 mm) lengths. Each FastClip™ has either two
or three vertical 1-inch-on-center (25 mm) slots, through
which the supplied ClarkDietrich FastClip Deflection
3.2.2.1 Stud Connections: The ClarkDietrich FastClip
Deflection Screws are proprietary screws made specifically
for ClarkDietrich to ClarkDietrich specifications. The
1
/4-inch-by-3/4-inch (6.35 by 19.05 mm) hex head selfdrilling screws provided with each FastClip are used only
to attach the long leg of the FastClips to the cold-formed
steel stud.
3.2.2.2 Support Connections: The FastClips must be
attached to the supporting structure with fasteners through
the short leg of the clip or by welding of the short leg of the
clip to the supporting structure. Attachment of the short leg
of the FastClip to the supporting structure must be
designed and specified by a registered design
professional. The specified fasteners must be supplied by
the contractor.
3.2.3 Cold-formed Steel Studs: The steel studs must
be fabricated from cold-formed steel complying with ASTM
A1003/A1003M-13 with designations and thicknesses as
listed in Table 1.
4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION
4.1 Design:
The design capacities for the attachment of the FCSCs
and FCECs to the cold-formed steel studs are shown in
Table 2. The clips may be fastened to the supporting
structure with screws, bolts, or welds. Design of the
connection must be submitted to the code official for
approval and is outside the scope of this report.
When using the alternate basic load combinations in IBC
Section 1605.3.2 that include wind or earthquake loads,
