Pedon Description:
A1 --- 0 to 14 centimeters; black (N 2.5/) moist, gravelly loamy
sand; massive; friable; nonfluid; 15 percent subrounded 20 to 40
millimeters granite fragments and 10 percent shell fragments;
color change with peroxide addition 5Y 5/1; clear; Field
Measured Properties: Odor (Exists in NASIS Horizon) none.
A2 --- 14 to 26 centimeters; black (N 2.5/) moist, sandy loam;
massive; friable; nonfluid; 5 percent shell fragments and 5 percent
subrounded granite fragments; color change with peroxide
addition 5Y 5/1 and algal filaments; clear; Field Measured
Properties: Odor (Exists in NASIS Horizon) sulfurous.
A3 --- 26 to 40 centimeters; black (N 2.5/) moist, loamy sand;
massive; friable; nonfluid; 10 percent shell fragments; color
change with peroxide addition 5Y 5/1 and shell layer with mussel,
quahog, periwinkle, scallop; clear; Field Measured Properties:
Odor (Exists in NASIS Horizon) sulfurous.
AC1 --- 40 to 58 centimeters; very dark gray (5Y 3/1) moist,
loamy sand; massive; friable; nonfluid; 3 percent rounded 2 to 3
millimeters granite fragments; no color change with peroxide and
algal filaments; abrupt; Field Measured Properties: Odor (Exists
in NASIS Horizon) sulfurous.
AC2 --- 58 to 64 centimeters; very dark gray (5Y 3/1) moist, fine
sandy loam; massive; friable; nonfluid; no color change with
peroxide and large wood fragments - 3 cm long outside part of
log; clear; Field Measured Properties: Odor (Exists in NASIS
Horizon) sulfurous.
Cg --- 64 to 104 centimeters; dark gray (5Y 4/1) moist, sand;
massive; friable; nonfluid; 3 percent subrounded 5 to 20
millimeters granite fragments; no color change with peroxide and

algal filaments; clear; Field Measured Properties: Odor (Exists in NASIS Horizon)
sulfurous.
Oa1 --- 104 to 116 centimeters; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) moist, muck; no
color change with peroxide; clear; Field Measured Properties: Odor (Exists in NASIS
Horizon) sulfurous.
Oa2 --- 116 to 165 centimeters; dark reddish brown (5YR 2.5/2) moist, muck; 3 percent
10 to 20 millimeters wood fragments; no color change with peroxide; Field Measured
Properties: Odor (Exists in NASIS Horizon) none.
