Today’s schools follow a rigorous curriculum addressing the academic, artistic, spiritual, social and physical development of each student. As a vital ministry of our parish, St. Margaret School teaches students to respect the inestimable dignity of the human person, to acquire the habits of intellectual and moral virtues, and to work for the advancement of the common good. We are pleased to report that we have nearly met our goal, and together donated 3% more than last year. We’re very grateful to all who demonstrated parish stewardship through support of the Annual Collection. Thank you! January 29, 2017 The Pastor’s Page The Sermon on the Mount is the greatest homily ever preached. It comprises chapters 5-7 of Matthew's Gospel. We hear the beginning of the homily, the Beatitudes, in today's reading. These "blessings" really present the inauguration of Jesus' own preaching ministry. I frequently use the Beatitudes at the funerals here at St. Margaret’s. Which beatitude identifies you? If I'm preaching your funeral, which one do you want me to emphasize? Poor in spirit, the meek, the merciful, the clean of heart... which one? I'll highlight one, but is it the right one for you, or for me? Being a pragmatist, I began arrangements for my own funeral from St. Margaret's according to God’s plan. I do not expect to see the new landscaping in front of the Church while lying on my back too soon! I do hope that God judges me as one of the pure of heart as I live to serve and then to see Him. Today we support and encourage the ministry of our primary ministry, St. Margaret School. With Mrs. Nunes, our wonderful teachers, and our fantastic students, we invite families and friends to visit and consider our school as an option in our community. Our students are exceptionally educated, spiritually enriched, and socially prepared for the challenges of high school. Mr. Chris Servant, recently retired President of Bishop Feehan High School, has joined our School Board. He is effusive with praise for our many students who attend Bishop Feehan and other area Catholic high schools. As Jesus says, “Come and see!” between 1-3 today (Sunday, Jan. 29th). We celebrate First Penance with all our Second Graders on Feb. 13, and First Communion on May 6 th. The children are excited for both, especially with parents giving them good examples themselves. Many thanks to Ms. Jessica Walters, our Religious Education Coordinator (K-6), who is also our new second grade teacher at St. Margaret’s, for her preparation of our students. Finally, I'll be away from the parish from Feb. 2-11. See you that weekend. For another reality check, Lent begins on March 1st. Yikes!! Enjoy the week! ~Msgr. Darcy
