Introduction You are contacted by an attorney. The attorney tells you that a distant friend of your mother has
passed on and left you with an inheritance. There is a pretty harsh catch though. Your mother’s friend
created a challenge for you in her will. She left you with $10,000. If you can turn that $10,000 into
$11,000 in a month or less, the inheritance will be worth a $1,000,000 dollars. There is only one
stipulation. The only way you are allowed to have the money grow is by investing in the stock market.
Task
Process
You have only one day to learn everything you need to know about the stock market. You must begin
to research how the market works, how trades are made, how to determine if a company’s stock is a
good choice for you. Then you must begin to actually pick 3 companies and follow their stock price
from where you would buy it to where you would sell. You can sell a stock and take a profit or a loss
only 3 times through this project. At the end of the month, you will sell all stocks you have to
determine if you gained a $1,000 or more.
To complete this task you will take the following steps:
1. Complete the Learning the Stock Market worksheet.
2. Complete the source worksheet to document the exact resources used for this project.
3. Complete the Stock Tracking worksheet. You are to choose 3 companies to start. At the end
of each week, you will decide whether to sell the stock or keep it. After you pick your first 3
companies, you can only make 3 more trades throughout the entire project. Make sure to keep
this in mind. Every time a trade is made you can calculate the gain or loss toward your total
initial balance of $10,000.
4. Complete the Final Analysis Worksheet to calculate your outcome.
