104X Series Wireless Access Point Mounting Solutions

104X Series Wireless Access Point Mounting Solutions
Oberon’s New 104X Series Wireless Access Point Mounting Solutions:
Security, Aesthetics, and Convenience in Any Type of Building Environment
Oberon’s new 104X Series wireless access point mounting solutions provide a cost
effective solution sought by wireless and cabling professionals. End customers
demand installations which secure the wireless equipment, provide superior
wireless performance, and more importantly than ever, do not degrade the
appearance of architecturally sensitive ceilings and walls. New “high density” Wi-Fi
designs require a large number of closely space Wi-Fi access points spread
throughout every part of the facility, inside and outside, emphasizing the
requirement for aesthetics and economy.
Commonly, end customers find dangling the Wi-Fi access point from the ceiling grid to be
unacceptable in appearance and physical security. Throwing the access point above the
ceiling is unacceptable from the standpoint of performance and maintenance.
Oberon’s new 104X Series wireless access point mounting solutions easily install much like
recessed lighting, positioning the access point with much of the body recessed into the
ceiling, with only the antenna face of the access point exposed to the room space. The result
is the perfect balance of aesthetics and performance.
The new 104X Series is purpose-built for economical installation of
virtually all Wi-Fi access point vendors’ models, in every kind of
room space, including:

Oberon’s 104X Series are UL listed and provide the specific
requirements for security, convenience, aesthetics, and code
compliance in public buildings, schools, university campuses, and
hospitals.

Model 1040-XX Series
Open, Canopy, Panel, and Cloud Ceiling
Recessed Installation Kit for Wireless Access Points
The 1040 Series is designed to be placed in ceiling
panels which do not form a barrier between the
room space and the plenum space. The 1040 is
comprised of a support panel, an adjustabledepth bracket, an AP-specific trim piece, and
hanger wire. Installation is very simple (Figure 1).
A cutout is made in the ceiling panel for the
access point, using the trim as a template. The
support panel is placed above the ceiling panel
and centered over the cutout. The hanger wire is
attached to the building structure. The trim is
attached to, or placed over, the access point. The
adjustable-depth bracket is attached to the access
point and this assembly is inserted into the ceiling
panel cutout. Thumb screws are then used to
draw the access point and trim until the trim is
flush against the ceiling panel.
When installed (Figure 2), only the antenna face of
the access point is exposed, surrounded by the
trim piece. Most of the body of the access point is
aesthetically recessed into the ceiling without
compromising wireless performance.
AP-specific trim is included with the product. For different vendors' access points,
specify the trim required.
Note: The trim is interchangeable after installation. Please contact your Oberon representative for additional trim options.

Model 1044 Series
Suspended Ceiling
Recessed Installation Kit for Wireless Access Points
The 1044 Series is designed to sit on top of ceiling
tile panels which do form a barrier between the
room space and the plenum space. The 1044 is
comprised of a tile bridge/back-box, an
adjustable-depth bracket, an AP-specific trim
piece, hanger wire, and fire stop grommet.
Installation is very simple (Figure 3). A cutout is
made in the ceiling tile for the access point, using
the trim as a template. The tile bridge is placed
above the ceiling tile and centered over the
cutout. The hanger wire is attached to the
building structure. The trim is attached to, or
placed over, the access point. The adjustabledepth bracket is attached to the access point and
this assembly is inserted into the ceiling tile
cutout. Thumb screws are then used to draw up
the access point and trim until the trim is flush
against the ceiling tile.
When installed (Figure 4), only the antenna face of
the access point is exposed, surrounded by the
trim piece. The access point is aesthetically
recessed into the ceiling, without compromising
wireless performance. This product is UL listed
and, because of the steel back-box and trim,
provides an effective barrier between the room
space and the plenum space above the ceiling.
AP-specific trim is included with the product. For different vendors' access points,
specify the trim required.
Note: The trim is interchangeable after installation. Please contact your Oberon representative for additional trim options.

Model 1044-XX-F Series
Suspended Ceiling
Recessed Installation Kit for Healthcare Environment
A second version of the 1044 is available for use in hospitals,
where there is a concern about lifting ceiling tiles and tightening
the trim piece from the rear of the box (above the ceiling). The
1044-XX-F series has a larger front attached trim (Figure 5 and 6).
With the 1044-XX-F series, once the back-box is installed, the trim
piece with access point can be attached to the back-box from the
front, rather than tightened in from the rear of the back-box. This
will simplify access point swap out and maintenance in a hospital
environment with ICRA procedures. For hospital environments,
please specify the front attach trim.
AP-specific trim is included with the product. For different vendors' access points,
specify the trim required.
Note: The trim is interchangeable after installation. Please contact your Oberon representative for additional trim options.

Model 1047 Series
Suspended Ceiling Tile
Wireless Access Point Enclosure
The 1047 Series is a 2’ X 2’ ceiling tile enclosure
designed to be placed within a standard
suspended ceiling grid, to form a barrier between
the room space and the plenum space. The 1047
is comprised of a 2’ x 2’ ceiling tile, back-box, APspecific interchangeable door, hanger wire, and
fire stop grommet. Installation is very simple
(Figure 7).
The 1047 simply replaces a ceiling tile and hanger
wire is attached to the building structure. The
access point is fastened into the door of the
enclosure. The model 1047 has a locking door, so
that the access point is physically secured.
When installed (Figure 8), only the antenna face of
the access point is exposed, surrounded by the
door piece. The access point is aesthetically
recessed into the ceiling without compromising
wireless performance. This product is UL listed
and, due to the steel flange, back-box and door,
provides an effective barrier between the room
space and the plenum space above the ceiling.
Access point change-out is easily accommodated
by the easy swap out interchangeable door.
AP-specific trim is included with the product. For different vendors' access points,
specify the trim required.

Model 1045 Series
Above 2’ x 2’ Suspended Ceiling Installation Kit
for Wireless Access Points
The 1045 installation kit is designed to ideally
position the access point above the suspended
ceiling tile. Most leading access point vendors
recommend that the access point not be mounted
above the ceiling tile due to wireless signal loss
through the ceiling tile, reflections from the
ceiling grid work, and difficulty locating,
accessing, and maintaining the access point when
it is above the tile (particularly in healthcare
environments). In those cases where it is desirable
and acceptable to mount the access point above
the ceiling tile, the Model 1045 provides an ideal
solution for positioning the access point.
The 1045 is comprised of a hanger bar, access
point mounting hardware and universal t-bar
mount, hanger wire, and status LED light pipe.
Installation is very simple (Figure 13). The hanger
bar is attached to ceiling joists where the access
point is to be installed. The hanger wire is

attached to the building structure. The access
point is attached to the hanger bar with provided
hardware or T-bar mount. The access point should
be positioned as close to the center of the ceiling
tile as possible.
The hanger bar ideally positions the access point
just above (and not touching) the ceiling tile. The
hanger bar is only 3” tall, thereby avoiding most of
the obstructions above the ceiling.
The 1045 also includes a status LED light pipe
(Figure 15), so that the status LED can be
monitored without lifting the ceiling tile. A pilot
hole is drilled in the ceiling tile and the lightpipe is
inserted into the ceiling tile, directly below the
status LED on the access point. The lightpipe, now
visible from the room side of the ceiling tile,
facilitates location and status monitoring of the
AP without lifting the ceiling tile.
