The National Handwriting Competition 2017 SATIPS and the Cambridge University Press have again joined forces this year to run the competition and are hoping for the biggest and best year ever. This is an annual event run by St Bernard’s Prep for its pupils. Individual entries will not be accepted. Children must copy out the poem for their relevant ‘Class’ (see below). The class refers to the child’s age on the day that they complete their best entry. The poems sent must be written on A4 paper. The paper can have feint lines, which must not detract from the handwriting; paper can be portrait or landscape. Do not use punch-holed file paper Class A and B entrants (8 years and under) may use a pencil. Classes C and D must be written in ink. Class A (6 years and under) Class B (7 – 8 years) Class C (9 – 10 years) Class D (11 – 13 years) I Miss My Sister One, Two, Three Trick or Treat Entrants for this class can either write out their own choice of a poem or write out the poem for Class C Summary of the key rules set by SATIPS/CUPress 1. Children MUST NOT write the DATE, ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION OR THE SCHOOL NAME anywhere on the FRONT of the entry as these entries will be DISQUALIFIED, and they could have been a winner as happened again in 2016. 2. DO NOT underline the title – it may obscure the letters on the first line below. 3. The entries MUST be spell-checked by a teacher before submission; errors will result in the DISQUALIFICATION of the written work. 4. Children’s first and surname, age at time of writing and school postcode ONLY (SL1 1TB) MUST be written on the BACK of each entry. Pencil is advisable as ink entries often show through to the work on the front. 5. Entries’ deadline to school is 3rd March in order to allow checking and administration. The competition closing date is 10th March.
