What is Glider kit?
 A Glider kit is a new, complete assembly, that includes the cab, frame, steer axle
and wheels, along with a loose parts box containing over 160 parts required to get
started, but without the major driveline components:

Engine, transmission, drivelines or rear axle
 Allows a customer to use new components, and re-use the major driveline
components from an existing vehicle, to build a refurbished truck.

All current models are available as a Glider, including the Cascadia

Established older models represent the bulk of the business

Freightliner models include Columbia, Older Coronado, Business
Class M2 and Argosy COE’s

Western Star models include the 4900 and 6900 series

Front axle assembly, complete with wheels and tires, is standard
and required
Daimler Trucks North America

Not settling for another brand based on price

F.E.T. exempt in most cases (USA Only)

New truck “financing rates” – often old components value can
be used against down payment

Gliders come with a new model year and VIN which may be
deductible/depreciable as a new asset
Daimler Trucks North America
Government regulations overview
 Donor VIN/vehicle must be utilized and recorded
 75% safe harbor rule – customer’s completed Glider Kit
(purchase price, labor, parts) must be 75% or less of the
cost of a new vehicle (fair market price). Potential 12%
savings right off the top.
“…Customer’s completed
Glider Kit (purchase
price, labor, parts) must
be 75% or less of the
cost of a new vehicle (fair
market price). Potential
12% savings right off the
top – USA only”
 Gliders are released without the 12% F.E.T. assessment,
as 2 of the 3 major components, either a transmission,
engine or rear axle must be donor vehicle supplied.

F.E.T. may or may not be due upon completion. Ruling is 91-27 and can be found
under www.irs.gov. See your tax consultant or IRS agent for clarifications “DONOR” vehicle is required.
 EPA year of remanufactured engine installed must be
same or newer of vehicle VIN coming out of service in
which you have possession of a title. Without this, the
government requires you meet current EPA standards.

Check with your state and local government for additional requirements
