Sketch the routes used by Europeans to colonize the Americas. Label each explorer’s route using a different color. The sketch should include where they started from (which European country) and which parts of the Americas they explored. Routes should include dates of exploration. You may have to look in the America’s Story textbook for additional information for this map (Chapters 1-4) 12 Two Cultures Meet Compare and Contrast Changes: When Europeans came to the Americas beginning in the 1400s, they met Native Americans who had been living there for centuries. As you read this booklet think about how the European cultures were similar to and different from Native American cultures. For each topic below, compare and contrast these two cultures. Write a narrative about what interactions you would have with each other. Narrative Essay: When you write a narrative essay, you are telling a story. Narrative essays are told from a defined point of view, often the author's, so there is feeling as well as specific and often sensory details provided to get the reader involved in the elements and sequence of the story. The verbs are vivid and precise. The narrative essay makes a point and that point is often defined in the opening sentence, but can also be found as the last sentence in the opening paragraph.
