Spanish – Level 1 Pre-AP Course Information [email protected] Course objectives: 1) Develop a vocabulary base and apply it to the language structure. 2) Acquire writing, listening, speaking, pronunciation and reading comprehension skills. 3) Become familiar with Hispanic/Latin culture and learn to appreciate differences and similarities in customs and traditions. Pre-AP: The degree of language proficiency and those skills required by the College Board’s AP Spanish Language programs drive the DPHS Foreign Language AP Program and set our standards. Those standards are high and we strive to reach them. Before requesting a schedule change from a PAP class to another class, parents must have a face-to-face meeting or a telephone conference with the Pre-AP teacher in order to discuss the student’s progress. The counselors will not make schedule changes without parent conference. First, the student must attend one 30 minute tutorial with a Spanish I teacher, then they can re-test and can earn up to a 75%. Bring Your Own Technology: MLD Use (Mobile Learning Device): Students will abide by the BYOT contract signed in accordance with district policy (see district website for details). Privately owned electronic equipment is allowed for educational purposes in the classroom per announcement by the teacher only. Only the school’s internet gateway/WiFi will be used for access while in the class. If abused, privileges will be taken away. Responsibility for personal technology rests with the individual owner. Academic Integrity: All material turned-in by a student must be a product of his/her own thoughts unless its ownership is referenced accordingly. Per DPHS policy, a zero is assigned to a student when this rule is broken, this includes: misuse/abuse of on-line and electronic translators, the work completed by a speaker of the target language, and anything that is not an original thought of that individual student. This applies to all assignments and assessments. Late work: No late assignments (homework, daily work,) will be accepted. Late work is recorded as a zero. Absences: YOU are responsible for making-up work missed due to an excused absence. Check with your teacher to get your assignments. Schedule a date to make-up exams and quizzes with your teacher. All work is made up within a week of the absence or will be recorded as a zero. Classroom Rules: SALSA- Let’s SALSA! Show respect to yourself, others and all property Actively participate and be cognitively present. Leave backpacks and purses under your desk. Set cell phone/media devices to “off” unless instructed otherwise. Act with a positive attitude. If You Choose to Break a Rule: First Time: Warning. Second Time: Contact parent or guardian and conference with teacher. Third Time: Written referral to the office. Severe disruptions and dress code violations: Student will be sent immediately to the office.
