Elementary Instant Activity: Penny Dots
Appropriate for: Grades K - 2
Activity Outcome: Demonstrates the ability to strike an object in various ways
Application to National Standards: Standard #4
Equipment: Pennies, balloons, polyspots
Procedure:

Give each student a penny, a polyspot and an inflated balloon.

On a signal, each student flips the coin. If the coin lands heads-up, the student hits the
balloon from hang to hand 10 times. If the coin lands tails-up, the student strikes the balloon
against the wall 10 times.

Before striking the balloon, have each student place the penny on his/her polyspot. The
student always returns to his/her polyspot to flip the penny.
Serve Those Around You: Tell students that if they accidentally kick a penny off a polyspot, they
should place the penny back on the polyspot.
