Are you ready to get creative?
The ever so popular Peppermint Swirl Dress PDF Pattern has been used many, many times to create the most amazing
frocks every girl would remember forever. However, sometimes you just want to match up some Awesomeness with a
different bodice.
It could be because you’ve made so many of the original Swirls already, or you like an elastic back bodice better because
it can be worn for a longer time than a fitted bodice. Or you just REALLY like straps and ruffle sleeves. Or…
This pattern tutorial shows you how to mash up the Peppermint Swirl Dress with the Marshmallow Dress to create a
fairytale. Despite what you may think because of its elaborate looks, both patterns are super easy. The Peppermint Swirl
Dress may look difficult, but this pattern was designed for and tested by first time seamstresses to make sure everyone,
beginner or advanced, can make a dress so beautiful. Please do not be taken aback by how difficult it looks – I promise
you, she is very easy to make. You can do it too!
The Marshmallow Dress Pattern has been designed with this very idea in mind: To mix the bodice up with the glorious
skirt of the Peppermint Swirl Dress.
Of course, it can be challenging to mix and match these patterns if you are not sure how, or are a beginner seamstress.
That’s why we’ve created this free tutorial that will show you exactly how to do so.
The tutorial will allow you to create a mash up of these two patterns. You will need to use the pattern pieces of the
Peppermint Swirl Dress PDF Pattern for girls, and the Marshmallow Dress & Tunic PDF Pattern. The pattern pieces for
both the bodice and the skirt are not included in this tutorial; this tutorial only covers how to mash up these two
patterns.

You will need to cut:
From the Peppermint Swirl Dress Pattern:
All the skirt pieces for the Peppermint Swirl Dress. That means, 14 top skirt pieces and 14 bottom skirt pieces. If you are
unsure what this means, please do read the Peppermint Swirl Dress Pattern thoroughly – it is very easy!
In my case, I am using two colors, so I cut 7 top and 7 bottom pieces in the color orange, and 7 top and 7 bottom pieces
in the colors pink. Of course, you can use more if you’d like, as explained thoroughly in the Peppermint Swirl pattern.
Using less is not recommended however.
You will cut none of the bodice or sleeve pieces of the Peppermint Swirl Dress or placket.
From the Marshmallow Dress & Tunic Pattern:
All the bodice & strap pieces mentioned in the pattern, optional strap ruffles as well as the loop and elastic, but none of
the skirt pieces. Prepare your bodice by cutting the armholes as explained on page 13 of the Marshmallow Dress
Pattern.
So now you should have:

In total: 14 top skirt pieces, 14 bottom skirt pieces

2 front bodice pieces (1 main, 1 lining)




1 back bodice piece
2 strap pieces
2 strap ruffles (optional)
2 elastic pieces

1 loop piece

1. We will assemble two skirt halves first.
Because the seams of the bodice are enclosed,
we cannot sew up the skirt in a full circle, but
we will first sew it up in two half skirts, and
attach them later.
Open up your Peppermint Swirl PDF Pattern
and skip to step 23. Follow all along through
step 37 and then stop.
Repeat for the other skirt half – you should
now have two skirt halves that each consist of
7 full flounces. Looks very weird, but trust me
on this one! It will work out!
In the Peppermint Swirl Pattern you will
constantly be guided along the way in sewing
the flounces together, so make sure you
follow all the steps and it will be super easy.
2. Now, to continue with the bodice. Open up
your Marshmallow Dress pattern.
Starting with step 1, you will work all the way
through step 30. Then, when in step 31 you
are starting on assembling the skirt and
bodice, you will treat the half Peppermint
Swirl Skirts you just created, like they are the
front and back skirt pieces.
Nothing changes in the instructions, it’s just
not a rectangular skirt at this point, but a
wiggly, twirly, half swirl skirt.

3. So, as per the instructions in the
Marshmallow Dress, you will first gather and
attach the front skirt half with the front
bodice, and step 36 would look like this.
4. Continue with step 37 and follow all the
way through step 47. Your back dress should
now look like this.

5. Return to the Marshmallow Dress pattern
and work all the way through step 60.
Now, in step 61, you will sew one whole side
of the dress together, but this time, it will not
be a simple rectangular skirt with a straight
seam.
Instead, you will sew along the bodice, down
along the flounces, attaching those two skirt
halves together along the flounces as you did
when you assembled the skirt halves.
In step 62, you will do the same for the other
side of the dress.
6. Continue through step 67. Great work, you
have put together the whole dress!
Open up your Peppermint Swirl Dress Pattern
again, and hop over to step 63. It will tell you
all about the ways to hem your dress, and
guide you through that, step by step.
