Dynamite bull explodes at $42,500
ANTA Gertrudis bulls sold to a
seasonal breed high of $42,500,
unled bulls hit $35,000, and
classified heifers peaked at $11,000
in a three State buying spree at last
week’s annual Santa Central Sale,
Nobby, Queensland.
Patchy demand saw average male
values dip by $221 a head on the
previous year’s result, while the
classified average fell by a mere $18 a
head to come in at $6797 a head.
Opening proceedings saw 22 led
bulls top $42,500 to average $11,545,
while 68 unled ‘S’ bulls recorded an
average of $5360.
Five purebred commercials
averaged $2900, while two females
topped at $11,000 to average $7250.
Balancing these highlights where
seedstock and commercial beef
producers competed for a share of the
catalogue was a decline in clearances
by five per cent (87pc in 2009).
These fluctuations saw
affordability remain a prominent
feature of the sale where 55 head
(60pc) sold for $4500 or less.
Wave Hill Dynamite (P), at 26
months, topped the sale at $42,500.
Offered by Phillip Kirkby, Wave
Hill stud, Narrabri, the 1102kilogram youngster produced a 128
square centimetre eye muscle area
(EMA) and a daily weight gain of
1.35kg.
By the former RNA champion,

Rosevale Fixall E162(P), a 23-month-
old, deep-bodied son of Rosevale
Fixall Z222(P), with a slick coat and
plenty of eye appeal.
Mr Scully was advised by Gary
Greer, Grant Daniel Long, Brisbane,
who said R Fixall E162 was the best
bull in the catalogue and a real beef
machine which will improve the
overall performance of the Santa
Gertrudis/Poll Hereford herd on
“Carlow”.
Local commercial cattleman, Grant
Thorne, Curra Park Cattle, who
operates “Kurrajong” and “Dixie”

Qld, paid the same amount for
Rosevale Battalion E700(P), a high
performance son of Rosevale
Battalion B150(P).
Mr Thorne said he wanted performance in his selection and reckoned R Battalion E700 was the ideal

value of +27 and a high morphology
test of 90 per cent.
Two quality classified S heifers in-calf

PASTURE prepared, performance

the order of the day at the Greenup
family’s annual Rosevale sale at
Jandowae, Queensland, last Tuesday,
where bulls topped at $18,000, twice.
For stud principals, Grahame,
Peggy, David and Sonya Greenup, it
was a rewarding experience to clear
129 bulls out of 130 representing a
near total clearance at their 54th onproperty fixture.
duration of the Eidsvold Station 53rd annual bull sale
at the Eidsvold saleyards in Queensland recently.
Repeat clients were in strong attendance, and
both seedstock and commercial breeders were well
represented to secure the quality Greenup Eidsvold
Station genetics in the 68 bulls offered.
Fourteen Santa Gertrudis herd bulls sold to
average $4357 and a top of $7500, while 37
classified bulls averaged $4392 to top $12,000,
achieving a 75pc clearance overall.
An optimistic future lies ahead for the top-priced
bull, Eidsvold Station Examine E460, to make its
mark on the breed in one of the country’s leading
herds.
Examine, which weighed 811 kilograms, was sold
to the Bassingthwaighte family of Yarrawonga Waco
Santa Gertrudis, Wallumbilla, Qld.
While classified, the bull did not have a pedigree
to report, and was sired by a classified bull and
from a classified cow.
David Bassingthwaighte sees their new
acquisition as an opportunity to introduce outcross
genetics into their herd, in a phenotypical package
that was commented on by his father, Alastair, as
“a complete bull who is a real sire”.
While catalogued at lot 15, Examine led the sale
in more ways than one.
It boasted the equal highest eye muscle area in
the sale at 125 square centimetres, was the
heaviest bull on offer, and also had the highest
lifetime daily gain, of 1.11kg/day.
It recorded the third highest scrotal size of 43
centimetres, and scored five and eight millimetres
on the rib and rump for fat.
