One day we heard shouts from one
of our three areas and rushed over to
see the outline of a pot, mostly intact,
IURP WKH WLPH RI .LQJ 'DYLG 7KH
archaeologists told us they had never
seen a rim like this before. They will
know more when the reconstruct this
over the winter season.
Archaeology is slow, painstaking
work. And the labour of volunteers
DOORZVWKHZRUNWRSURJUHVV:HFRQĥ
tributed a small but important part
in the work of uncovering the story
of the citizens of Geshur/Bethsaida.
:HWRXFKHGWKHUHPDLQVRISRWVDQG
plates that were part of the daily lives
of people three thousand years ago.
But our journey was not only about
WKH SDVW :H GLG RXU EHVW WR WU\ WR
listen and learn about the lives of the
great diversity of people living in Isĥ

in ways that challenged the assumpĥ
tions and certainties we brought with
us.
