DIFFERENTIAL TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER DTC-10 FEATURES v v v v v Solar powered hot water pumping system The pump speed varies based on solar panel voltage Three types of Differential control Auto selects operation based on the which sensors are connected to controller. LEDs indicate operation / fault status DESCRIPTION & OPERATION The DTC-10 is a Differential Temperature Controller that monitors up to four 10k ohm thermistor temperature sensors. It turns on and off a Laing circulating pump based on the differential temperature between T1 & T2 or T1 & T3 or T1 & T2 & T3 (see application notes on back). The DTC-10 and pump are powered by a 30 watt solar panel. If any of the sensors short or key sensors open the DTC-10 will turn on the pump. SPECIFICATIONS The DTC-10 is powered by the PV panel, when the sun comes up in the morning the PV panel begins producing a voltage, as that voltage rises to 4.0vdc DTC-10 wakes up, at 5.7vdc the DTC-10 begins monitoring the collectors temperature sensors, when PV voltage reaches 6.7vdc it energizes the pump relay turning off the solar voltage to pump. The Laing pump has minimum run voltage of 8vdc, so up to this point the pump has not run. SIZE: 2.0"W x 3.30"L x 1.25"H WEIGHT: 8 ounces ENCLOSURE: Epoxy potted in PVC plastic housing MOUNTING: Two #6 x 0.5" screws POWER: 6.5 to 24V DC from PV panel As the solar hot water collector begins storing the suns energy the collector temperatures begin to increase. When the collector outlet temperature is ten degrees greater that either the collector inlet temperature or the tank temperature the DTC-10 turns on the pump. When the outlet and inlet temperatures or outlet and tank temperatures equalize the pump is turned off. This prevents re-radiation of already collected energy. CONNECTIONS: 1/4" standard push-on spades RELAY CAPACITY: 10 Amps @28V DC (NC contact) RELAY ACTION: Normally closed, relay energizes to stop pump. TEMP. SENSORS: 10K Ohms Thermistors Qty 2-4 The DTC-10 will operate with T1 and T2 or T1 and T3 sensors, but hot water collection will be more efficient if all three sensors are used. The DTC-10 powers down when the PV panel no longer has sunlight to produce a voltage. The pump is stopped when T1 & T2 temperature equalize. The DTC-10 is mounted on the roof near the pump and the PV panel. The temperature at the top of hot water tank may be warmer than the collector and heat may be radiated back outside. The DTC-10 starts the pump when the solar outlet (T1) is 10'f or greater than the tank (T3) temperature. The pump is stopped when T1 & T3 temperature equalize. The DTC-10 is mounted on the roof near the pump and the PV panel. APPLICATION 3 - THREE TEMP. SENSORS APPLICATION 4 - TWO PUMP W/ HEAT EXCHANGER The DTC-10 starts the pump when the solar outlet (T1) is 10'f or greater than either the solar inlet (T2) or the tank (T3) temperature. The pump is stopped when T1 & T3 temperature equalize. Also the pump is stopped when the solar inlet temperature (T2) is equal to the outlet temperature. This application has the maximum energy collection. Solar pump P1 runs whenever the PV panel is providing power. The DTC-10 starts pump P2 to circulate the domestic water thru the heat exchanger, whenever the solar loop (T1) is 10'f hotter than the tank (T3). A 50W PV panel is required to operate the two pumps.
