conference on 'Green Technologies' in Visakhapatnam on Friday.
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju has called for more awareness on
electromagnetic pollution.
In his keynote address at the inaugural of a two-day UGC national conference on ‘Green
Technologies’ at St Joseph’s College for Women on Friday, he said while there was reasonable
knowledge about other forms of pollution, many people were not aware of the disastrous effects
of electromagnetic pollution. He observed that the indiscriminate use of cell phones had
become a necessary evil. People should look for the CE mark on digital and electronic digital
products for emission compliance, Prof. Raju cautioned. Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor
inaugurated a new basket ball court.
The two-day conference is being organised by the college in collaboration with Visakhapatnam
Steel Plant. Executive Director (operations) of VSP D.N. Rao felt propagating green
technologies should begin as an individual effort and culminate in group movements. He
pointed out that with increasing population natural resources became scarce and there was a
need to conserve resources through green technologies and not polluting environment.
Principal Sr. N.D. Veronica presided. Conference convener and Head of the Department of
Physics K. Radhakrishna made a detailed presentation on the impact of pollution on the quality
of life. K. Maniya Kumari, faculty of the Department of the Botany anchored the programme.
Faculty D.A. Ramani, Thomas Raju, N.R. Jeevan Babu and Mary Vijaya Ratna participated.
