SA Secondary Schools State Constitutional Conventions have been held annually since 1995.
The conventions provide opportunities for Year 11 students to hear about and discuss
significant Australian Constitutional and Governance issues. Students may be able to use the
Constitutional Convention as the basis of their Research Project and/or an Inquiry Task in a
relevant subject area at SACE Stage 2.
Students who attend the State Convention will be invited to apply to attend a National
Convention in 2016 in Canberra (travel, accommodation and meals provided). Application will
be by an essay on the topic “Should Australia become a Republic?” Country Students unable
to attend the State Convention may still apply to attend the National Convention by
supporting their essay with a 2 min video clip or similar, oral presentation.
