totournamentheadquarters(BeaverdamReservoirMainEntrance)between2:00and4:00pmon
tournamentday.Youmustbeinlineby4pm,noexceptions.
6.COMMUNICATIONS:
Theuseofmobilecommunicationisallowed.
7.SPORTSMANSHIP:
Allcontestantsarerequiredtofollowhighstandardsofsportsmanship,courtesyandconservation.
Intoxicationwillbecauseforimmediatedisqualification.Noalcoholicbeveragesortheuseofillegal
drugsisallowed.Thisruleextendsthroughandincludessigningofthecheck-informattournament
headquarters.Theillegaluseofdrugs,participationinanycriminalactivities,orotherconductreflecting
unfavorablyuponeffortstopromotesafety,sportsmanship,faircompetitionandcompliancewith
tournamentrulesandthelawaregroundsfordisqualificationand/orrejectionofanyapplicantfrom
participation.Thiswillalsoentailthereturnofanyprizesawarded.TheTKAA/BeaverdamTournament
Committeewillseeklegalremedyifnecessary.
8.PERMITTEDFISHINGMETHODS:
A.Allbassmustbecaughtonrod,reel,lineandhookwithartificiallures.Notraps,snares,setlinesor
othermethodsoffishingotherthanrod,reelandlinearepermissible,eveniflevelunderstategame
laws.
B.EachCompetitormusthaveaHawgTrough,theonlyacceptablemeasuringdevice.“HawgTrough”is
aspecificbrandofmeasuringdevicemanufacturedbyHagen’s.Itdoesnotrefertoanyotherroundedor
flatmeasuringboard.HawgTroughsmaybeshortenedonlybyremovinginchesfromtheupperend
oppositethefence.Forinstance,onemaybeshortenedbycuttingitoffatthe26inchmarkinorderto
fitcrosswaysbetweenthekayakgunwales.However,itmaynotbebroken,snapped,orcutapartand
thenreassembledatanypointbetweenthetwoends.AcrackthatdoesnotseparatetheHawgTrough
intopiecesanddoesnotaffecttheaccuracyoftheHawgTroughmayberepairedandreinforcedforuse
C.Eachcompetitormusthaveamobilephonewithcameraoradigitalcamerawithmemorycardand/or
downloadcabletosubmitdigitalphotographs.
D.Netsandgrippers(e.g.,FishGrip,Boga-Grip)maybeusedforlandingbassduringtournament
competition,butgrippersmustnotremainattachedtothefishinphotos.
E.Onlyartificiallures,biodegradableartificialluresmaybeused.Nolivebait,preservedbait,or
preparedbaitwillbepermittedduringcompetition,withtheexceptionofporkstripsorrinds.
F.OnlyONEcasting,spin-casting,spinning,orflyrodandreelmaybeinuseatanyonetime.Ahunglure
thatisnotinoronthewaterisnotconsideredinuseandmaybesetasidewhileanotherisinuse.Other
rigsasspecifiedabovemaybeinboatreadyforuse;however,onlyONEispermittedinuseatanygiven
time.
G.IfaCompetitorbreakshislinewhilesettingthehookorretrievingafish,heisallowedtomakean
attemptwiththerodbeingusedorbyhandtosecurethelineandlandthefishtobecountedaslegal.
HemayNOThookthelinewithanotherlure,rodandreel,orotherdevice.IfaCompetitorloseshisrod
andreelwhilelandingabassheMAYuseanotherrodandreeltoretrievethelostoutfit.Ifthatrodand
reelisverifiedtobethelostoutfitthatandthebassisstillhooked,itmaybelanded,photographed,and
submittedasalegalfish.
H.Competitorsareallowedtosharebaitsandtackleatalltimes.
I.Duringthehoursofcompetition,contestantsmaynotobtainorreceiveassistance,includingbutnot
limitedtofollowinganon-competitor'sboat,theplacingofmarkersbyanynon-competitor,towedbyor
ridingonmotorizedvesselsorelectronic,voiceordatacommunicationfromanon-competitor.
J.Contestantsmaynotleavetheboattostandortowadewhilefishing.
9. Watercraft & Propulsion
A.Onlybasscaughtfromkayaksorotheracceptablewatercraftareeligibleforscoring.Acceptable
watercraftisdefinedasanywatercraftdefinedbythemanufacturerasakayakandsoldasakayak.
B.TKAA/BeaverdamCommitteemustapproveinadvanceanyothercraft,paddledorotherwise
propelled.Nogasoline-poweredboats,sailboats,jonboats,floattube,pontoonboat,orsimilarcraftwill
bepermitted.Forquestionablecraftthatmaynotqualify,contactTKAA/BeaverdamCommitteein
advanceforeligibilitydetermination.
C.TrollingispermittedaslongastheCompetitoradherestotheone-rodrule(8.F,above).
D.Theuseofmotherships(i.e.,transportorassistancefromapowerboatinmovinglocations)isNOT
permitted.Assistancefrompowerboatsispermittedonlyinemergencies,aswhenpullingakayakfrom
adangerzoneorrestrictedarea.Fishingmayresumefollowingemergencyassistanceonlyifno
appreciablerelocationoccurred.
E.Competitorsmaynotfishfromwatercraftoperatingwithgasolineorotherpetroleumpower
propulsion(oranyotherfuelsource).Watercraftpermittedforuseduringcompetitionarelimitedto
thosepropelledbypaddle,orpedal.
F.TANDEMS/SHARING.Itispermissibleformorethan1entranttosharethesamewatercraft.However
eachpaddlermustpayandcompeteasasingleangler.Theymustalsohavetheirowncamera,theirown
pictureofthevesselatputinontheircameraroll,andisscoredseparately.FishmayNEVERbeshared
amongentrants.
10.PROHIBITED:
ThereisabsolutelyNOFERRYING(i.e.usinganothervehicleorboat,motorizedornottotransportyour
kayaktoafishinglocationwhileonthewater.)
11.PERMITTEDFISHINGLOCATIONS:
FishingispermittedwithinBeaverdamReservoirexcepttheRESTRICTEDAREA.Allparticipantsmust
useoneofthetwo“publicaccessible”launchareas.ThesearethemainentranceoffRoaringSprings
roadoralternativeentrancelocatedoffFary’sMillRoad.Usingprivatepropertywillresultin
disqualification.
12.DIGITALPHOTOGRAPHY:
Participantsmustusetheirowndigitalcameras/Phoneforrecordingscoringfish,andacardreaderwill
beusedtodownloadpictures.
A.Entrantsmustbringthestoragechipfromtheircameratocheck-inorbringthedownloadcablefor
theircamerasothatpicturesmayberetrieved.
B.Ifsmartphonesareused,GPSanddateMUSTbeturnedonandused.Thisinformationmustableto
beretrievedbytournamentstaff(failuretodosowillresultinallpicturestakenwiththatdevice

A.Thefirstphotoinmemorymustbeoftheangleronthemorningoflaunchwiththemeasuring
device.Thesecondphotowillbetheriggedboatatlaunch.
B.Legible.Photomustbeclearenoughtoreadidentifier,includingrequiredIDcodesandmarks,and
judgethelengthaccurately.Aftercarefullyexaminingphotodetailsandcross-referencingotherphotos
submittedforscoringbythesameanglerinthesameevent,iftheeventjudgeisNOTabletoverifywith
100%confidencethattheIdentifierFormandIDCodesorMarksinthephotoarevalidforboththe
competitiveeventandthecompetitor,thenthephotowillbedenied.
C.OfficialTKAA/BeaverdamCommitteeIdentifierFormplacedwhereitdoesnotcoverthebass’eyeor

appeartobedead,mutilated,frozenorsimilarlydamagedwillbedisqualifiedwithoutscoring.Photosof
bassthatappeartohavebeenmangled,mashed,mauledorotherwisealteredinwaysthatincrease
theirlengthwillbedisqualifiedorapprovedforscoringatthediscretionoftheTournamentDirector.
v.Norestrainingdevice,clip,orbandmaybeusedtosecurethefishbeingphotographed.Securingthe
fishwithanyportionofahandunderthefish’sgillflapisprohibited.
vi.AllphotosbecomepropertyoftheTKAA.
14.SCORING:
A.Thetournamentisacatch,photo,andreleaseformat.Speciesdivisionwinnerswillbedeterminedby
thelengthofthecombinedlongest2LargemouthBass.Scoresheetsmustalsobefilledoutcompletely
andcorrectly,failuretodosowillresultindisqualification.
B.Basslengthisdeterminedbyitstailtouchingorcrossingaquarter-inchlineontheHawgTrough.Ifit
fallsshortofaline,thelengthisroundeddowntothenearest1/4-inchmarkthatthebass’tailactually
touchesorcrosses.Pinchingthetailoranglingthefishtoachieveadditionallengthwillnotresultina
higherscoreandmayresultindeductioninlength.
C.Intheeventofanexacttieinaggregatescore,tieswillbebrokenaccordingtothetimethatthe
competitors’lastfishphotowasofficiallycheckedinbytheJudges.Shouldthelastfishphoto
submissiontimesbeidentical,thenbothCompetitors’highestsingle-bassscorewillbecompared,and
thehigherscorewillbedeterminingtheoutcome.IfbothCompetitors’highestsingle-bassscore,too,is
identical,thenthesecondhighestsingle-bassscoreofbothCompetitorswillbecompared,andsoon
untilthetieisbrokenbythehighestsingle-bassscore.

TidewaterKayakAnglersAssociation(TKAA),itsagents,itsendorsersandsponsors,administrators,
successors,andassigns,includingtheirofficers,directors,members,operators,representatives,agents,
insurers,successors,andvolunteers,fromeachandeveryactionandclaimfordamages,inlawin
admiralty,orinequity,arisingfrommyassociation,entryorparticipationintheTKAAevent.Andhold

personnelorcompaniesresponsibleifIaminjuredasaresultofANYproblems(medical,accidental,or

oftherisksassociatedwiththeweatherconditionsthatprevailonwateratanytimeoftheyear:varying
watertemperatures,strongcurrents,choppywatersandmarineanimals.Ialsounderstandthat
pleasureandfishingcraftsharethewatersandmaybeadanger.IspecificallyacknowledgethatIam
awareoftherisksinBoating&Fishingandagreetoassumethoserisks.IfIshouldsufferillnessorinjury
duringtheeventIrealizethatmedicalcaremustbesummoned&treatmentwillbedelayeduntilIcan
returntoshore&orbetransportedtoapropercarefacility.Iagreeinadvancetotheseconditions.Iwill
bepresentfortheCaptainsmeetingandbeattentivetoanyinformationconcerningconditions,which
maycausemedanger.IfthereisanythingIhavebeentoldthatIdonotunderstand,Iwillimmediately
informanofficialrepresentativeoftheevent.Iauthorizetheofficialsoftheeventtousetheirdiscretion
tohavemetransportedtoamedicalfacilityandthisWaiverandReleaseofRightsappliesfullytosuch
