President’s Message
Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed a great vacation with your family. I
am excited to be back and all of the great things we have going on in the month of
January.
As we mentioned we are short of our fundraising goal for the year. In order
to continue with all that we have planned, we have a Gertrude Hawk sale in the
months of January and February. We appreciate all that you do for the PTA and
hope this will be our last fundraising efforts for the year! Be on the lookout for
brochures to come home very soon.
Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) kicks off this month. Information will come
home on January 13th. PARP is a statewide PTA program designed to encourage the
love of reading in children by asking a partner to set aside 15 minutes each day to
read with their children. This year’s theme is “Reading Takes You Places”. We will
encourage our children that they can go on a journey every time they pick up a
book! During the three weeks of PARP we will encourage reading with a partner for
a minumum of 15 minutes a day for five days a week. Please read through the
information and take that pledge to really get into this program with your child.
Students will have a Reading Passport that they will be asked to read four different
genre books during PARP which they will complete and send back in as their
participation. Remember for every class that has 100% participation wins a
PARPsicle party!
We will also hold a Family Fun B-I-N-G-O Night! The only ticket in the door is
pennies to donate to our 1,000,000 Pennies for our Playground fundraiser! We will
also have an opportunity for your kids to trade in their silver and dollars for pennies
as well. Please join us on Friday, January 27th from 6:30 - 8:00 in the Elden Gym.
Lastly, we hope you will join us on Tuesday, January 10th at 7:00pm for our
next PTA Meeting. Your input and ideas are needed in order to make our Elden PTA
a continued success!
Thank you,
Charla Roth

Our One Million Pennies for our Playground fundraiser has begun! The PTA is raising money to enhance our 3 -5 grade playground area. The
project will cost around $25,000 and we are hoping to have half of this raised by the late spring. Students have been very excited to watch their
classroom jar grow! Please keep sending in your pennies to help us reach our goal. Thanks again for all that you do to support our mission of the
PTA.

Our next PTA meeting is Tuesday, January 10 at 7:00pm. Please think about becoming a member today. The Elden PTA provides wonderful
opportunities for our students and their families. Ice Skating Night at the Lysander Ice Arena as well as our Math and Movement Family Fun Night
were events sponsored by the Elden PTA. Jump on board with the Elden PTA!
Although our enrichment day is April 1, 2017, (another outstanding event sponsored by our PTA), we would love you to join our enrichment
committee. Anyone wishing to help please contact: [email protected].
The lost & found closet here at Elden has grown. If your child seems to be missing an item (eg. gloves, lunch boxes, etc) please remind him or her to
th
take a look in the lost and found closet during lunch. Our Family Fun Night is Friday, Jan. 27 and you are welcome to browse and look for your
child's lost items during that event. The lost & found closet can be found in the APR (cafeteria). Any items not claimed after that night will be

Enrichment
Help Needed
Enrichment is just around the corner!
This year we will be looking for volunteers to present some of our
popular sessions. We are open to new ideas and would enjoy trying any
new activities that would be great additions to this year’s event.
Please contact [email protected]
The Elden PTA would like to enhance the Grade 3rd – 5th playground and
needs your help! We are asking students and their families to help raise 1
Million Pennies to go towards our $25,000 goal.
Have your child bring their pennies to their classroom collection jar.
There will be a classroom challenge for the top classes that collect the
most pennies!
