The Bald Eagle
The bald eagle is a bird of
prey found in North
America. Its range
includes most of Canada
and Alaska, all of the
contiguous United States,
and northern Mexico. It is
found near large bodies of
open water with an
abundant food supply and
old-growth trees for
nesting.
The bald eagle is an
opportunistic feeder which
subsists mainly on fish,
which it swoops down and
snatches from the water
with its talons. It builds the

American bird and the
largest tree nests ever

species, up to 13 feet
deep, 8.2 feet wide, and 1
metric ton in weight.
Bald eagles are not
actually bald; the name
derives from an older
meaning of the word,
"white headed". The adult
is mainly brown with a
white head and tail. The
sexes are identical in
plumage, but females are
about 25 percent larger
than males. The beak is
large and hooked. The
plumage of the immature
eagle is brown.
The bald eagle is both the
national bird and national animal
of the United States of America.
The bald eagle appears on its
seal. In the late 20th century it
was on the brink of extinction in
the contiguous United States.
Populations have since
recovered and the species was

government's list of endangered
species on July 12, 1995 and
transferred to the list of
threatened species. It was
removed from the List of
Endangered and Threatened
Wildlife in the Lower 48 States
on June 28, 2007.

Watch Your Speed
The beach re-nourishment
project began on
November 1, with 6000
trucks hauling sand to
Collier County beaches
through at least early
January. As the email you
received last week states,
Collier has committed to
diverting the trucks onto
Alico Road, keeping them
from using Corkscrew
Road in front of The
Preserve.
However, the Lee County
Sheriff’s Department has
agreed to have officers
posted along Corkscrew
to monitor and control this
situation. There will be an
officer dedicated to
Corkscrew from early
morning to evening, every
day.
The patrols on Corkscrew
will be in UNMARKED
CARS. The Sheriff’s
Department has told us
their intention is to monitor
the sand trucks. However,
if they see someone
speeding, they will be
obligated to ticket.

Bingo Lingo
If you attend Bingo Night at
the Clubhouse, expect to pick
up some new lingo. Did you
know that O-75 is the
“grandfather of Bingo” and B1 is the “baby of Bingo?” The
definition of “Bongo” is a false
or incorrect call out of Bingo.
Regular attendees of The
Preserve’s Bingo Nights know
the language and enjoy the
fellowship and the entertainment
of the game.
Bingo nights usually find about
fifty residents in the gathering
room with game boards and
dabbers. Thanks to the Social
Committee for sponsoring these
recurring fun evenings. Next

Message from the President - Kevin Tolliver, President
Being in the midst of our annual budget process, I think it would be good to explain exactly how the process works every year.
A few months ago, our Finance Committee, in conjunction with our Treasurer and Community Manager began the process of
formulating the 2017 Budget by projecting final 2016 expenses and revenues, projecting changes to those expenses and revenues
in 2017, looking at additional community-enhancement projects, and evaluating our Reserves. Several Finance Committee
workshops, open to all residents, were held in September and October.
In October, the Board of Directors held two workshops in which the draft 2017 Budget was presented to the community, and
resident comments and questions were entertained. After tweaking the draft budget as a result of these workshops, the Finance
Committee completed the draft and has presented it to the Board. At the November 10 BOD meeting the Board will vote on
accepting the draft budget. If accepted, the draft 2017 Budget will be scheduled for final approval and adoption at the December 1
Budget Meeting.
Please make every attempt to attend the extremely important December 1 Board meeting. There will actually be three meetings,
held consecutively, that evening.
1. A resident vote on amending our Master Documents to institute staggered Director terms. *
2. A meeting for final approval and adoption of the final 2017 Budget.
3. A regular Board meeting.
The amendment for staggered terms is vitally important! Without it, a situation could exist where we would have seven entirely new
Directors every year, which would be a real hardship on the community. There would be no continuity and a lack of knowledge of
previous Board affairs.
The amendment was actually overwhelmingly passed by residents at the 2016 Annual Meeting. However, because it could not be
legally recorded until after the election, it could not be instituted for 2016. The new amendment is basically the same amendment,
only changing the dates for implementation. In the 2017 election, the top four candidates in terms of votes received will serve two
years terms, and the next three will serve one year terms. Then, beginning with the 2018 election, all Directors elected will serve
two year terms. Thus, after 2017, one year there will be three open Board seats and the next year there will be four open seats.
You will soon receive your proxies for this amendment. Please complete and return your proxies, even if you plan to attend the
December 1 meeting. If we don’t have a quorum of residents vote, the amendment cannot pass.
