Pirate Homophones They’re, There, Their Whole Group Activity, Graphic Organizer, and Assessment Dear Teacher, Thank you so much for purchasing this packet. I am sure you will agree with me that the homophones “they’re, there, and their” can be so confusing for students. Use this packet as one tool to help students learn the correct spelling and use of these words. The homophone cards on pages 3-5 can be used as a whole group activity. Give each child one copy of each card (black and white versions have been included in case colored ink is not an option for you). Read the sentences aloud on page 9. Have students to immediately hold up the card that they believe is the correct spelling for the homophone. (Do not give students time to look around the room to find the correct answer.) You will quickly be able to see which students have mastered the correct spellings and which students need further practice. My students in the past have enjoyed this class activity. These cards can then be used in smaller groups or in stations to help students who need further practice. On page 10 you will find a graphic organizer to help students with “they’re, there, and their.” Students write the meaning of each word, find an example sentence of each word in a text, and create their own sentences using each word correctly. I have also included a printable on page 11 that can be used as an assessment or further practice, if desired. A key is included on page 12 as well. I hope you enjoy this packet! I’d love for you to rate this packet on TpT! If you have any question or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you!
